Smart move on the belts and plugs. What are they charging you for the fix?

Plugs and belt came to $241.00. They reduced the labor on the plugs and aren't charging labor on the belt. The cam towers and timing cover leaks, second oil change and rental vehicle are all covered by warranty.

I thought the belt and plugs were a good idea since it's already torn apart. I couldn't find a mileage recommendation for changing the belt. I know the plugs are 100,000 but I have never and will never run plugs that long. They're saving the belt for me (I'll carry it in the truck as a 'just in case' spare) and a couple of the plugs just because I want to see how they look at 56,000.

It was supposed to be ready on Friday. Got a call Friday afternoon that it was back together and the tech and service manager were test driving it and the CEL came on. The service advisor said it was off and running fine but wanted to keep it thru the weekend for the tech to go back over it. I asked what code it pulled but he didnt know and said the tech was on it as we were talking. He was very apologetic and said they wanted it perfect before i got it back. I said no problem, I'll suffer driving the rental turd Suburban until tomorrow.

Honestly I was expecting some little car. The Sub is a rental thru Enterprise and I was surprised that that's what they gave me. I did thank the guy for not bringing me a mini van ;)

So, got the truck back today, everything seems to be right with the world again. They did a good, clean job with the sealant, cleaned up under the hood pretty well and gave it a bath. The delay in delivery was because of a timing issue which caused the CEL. Apparently some sealant got on a sensor and threw a timing code. She's also got new plugs and a new serp belt. Plugs looked pretty good at 56,00020171030_171128.jpg

I just purchased a 2018 tundra 5.7L & am wondering if this problem has been resolved in the newer trucks ?? :( Hopefully it is .

too early to tell. Some 2017s have it though but less reports obviously. It seems to happen around the 30,000 miles mark.

I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s only a small percentage of people that actually have it happen. Honestly, you probably have a much higher chance of getting in a wreck and destroying the whole truck than having that leak #GlassHalfFull.

That happened to me and it turned out to be a chipmunk that tried to take a nap on my manifold.

Just put a deposit on a 2016 long bed w 46k miles …I was just informed to inspect for this issue. Guna try n get a look in there after lunch. Guy was trying to sell me 84 month/75k mile warranty but not sure if this would be covered….any ideas if it would be? Warranty does not cover wear and tear stuff.
