Didn’t get a chance to remove the cover on the tailgate today but below is the link to the video I made of the operationfrom the exterior. I’m back at work tomorrow and will try and take a second video showing the actual actuator working with the zip-tie

I had emailed the guy that did the design. He said he said it only lasted 6 months and he used ABS which is one of the stronger printing materials. Bummer.

After a week it came off the pin so I just zip tied it today. This hold looks stronger so I’m sure it will hold for a while2516849E-BA59-4DCA-A170-7F6BE9CAB2DB.jpg

Did mine today and it works great. Parts were just under $20 from Amazon

To fix the issue of the actuator coming off the lock pin I drilled a hole down the middle of the plastic pin and threaded in a bolt, I used some plastic washers on top to allow some play for it to move smoothly. worked out great and I have no fears that it will ever come off.
This was the perfect amount of wire and loom for this project. Used a few connectors and wire taps I had from previous projects.
Very happy with this, its quiet and works flawlessly. I used @BlueBottle pop and lock write up to find my wires cuz they changed colors in 2018. Blue wire silver dash and and white with silver dash.
Thanks so much for doing this write up.

    Thanks Ron
I tried a few things. I tried to remove the metal lever and put it over the new plastic lever on the actuator but that wouldn't work. If the plastic pin was slightly taller you could drill a hole and use a cotter pin but it's just not long enough.
I figured I'd drill it out and it worked great. Found the skinniest bolt I could and when I was looking for that I saw those plastic washers. I love it and have no worries that it would pop off. That pin is maybe 3/8" so the hole needs to be precise and very small. Best solution I can think of.

I've got all the components bought and delivered from Amazon. For a rookie DIY, how long would something like this take? Any additional suggestions after having installed it?

Take your time...if you have all the components should take 2 hours for a beginner. Zip ties are your friends in this install

For those of you having issues with the actuator coming off the pin, did you drill out the hole on the actuator prior to installation?

I did using the bit suggested in your write up. I think the bend in the bracket is what plays a factor in it popping off as well.

I did drill the hole bigger for it to fit. I think it’s angle and lack of support with one bolt holding actuator causing it to move a bit. The zip tie solved the problem for me. It’s been working great ever since

Gotcha. Maybe I got lucky with my angle or just haven’t given it enough time to fall off. Either way mine is still hanging on for now!

See my video above. It’s not too bad. The Pop N Lock I had on my Tacoma was louder but it’s probably because it was a smaller gate. You definitely hear it but I wouldnt say it’s intrusive.

It’s noticable but not too loud! I like hearing it that way I know it’s still working properly!

I agree. Gives you a peace of mind knowing it locked. I do not think it is any louder than the door locks when you are inside the truck.

@moonshineheadache and I each worked on ours this weekend. We ended up drilling a hole through the ABS pin and used 14ga copper wire for the retaining pin. Candy cane style! this thread was the inspiration, thanks folks!:benchpress:

I've been working on a huge project which has included lots of travel and motel over-nights, and having $1000's of tools. Knowing you can look out the window and hit the lock button (just to be sure) gives me peace of mind.

Put one in my buddies truck last night. Took about an hour. Did the same thing with his, as far as drilling down through the pin and using a bolt to secure the arm in place.
