Done!! the first door handle took me 10 minutes... the next three took me 2 min.. Lol Mirror caps weren't too bad either. Well worth the time and effort for sure!!

Anyone interested in a set of chrome handles and mirror caps? mY5rOQTZTH2zXgUo5HIoZg.jpg

I swapped mine out on Christmas - love the color matched instead of chrome.

Door handle swap- Wish it was so easy as stated. A lot of things come easy for me. Not cars. I am a gluten for punishment with cars. Replacing the Chrome for MGM door handle (‘18-1794), my “T30” screw that “doesnt fall out” fell down to the base of door jam. Damn gravity. Now I am door handleless. Anyone know the size, because parts at TCS did not. Never again will I mess with this beast.
Any help? Thanks for listening to me vent.

Thanks Rowdy. I won’t go near the door jam given my recent debacle. Actually rented a car until Monday, since there is no handle on the outside drivers side. Kinda important.. ha. I called 2 Toyota parts departments of my local Stealerships, and they told me to go to a hardware store and try some sizes out.. to the Stealership it goes monday with 4 MGM door handles, 2 MGM mirror caps and other goods to be installed.

Finally got mirror caps and door handles color matched a couple weeks ago and had my XPEL dealer install PPF on them today! No charge since I had the front bumper, fenders and front of hood covered originally. Manager said the original installation included the mirror caps, but were not installed because they were chrome, so now its complete. Very happy! The rest of the XPEL has held up very well. My chrome is still in good shape if anyone wants it...

Seems like a lot of people askin about their old chrome stuff. Just so y’all know if you leave the chrome plastic pieces in a basin of bleach it will strip the chrome off and leave bare white plastic. ( even scuffed up paint will chip off the chrome in some time). From there just get local body shop to color match or black. Or your local Parts store usually has color matched spray cans. Little of that and some clear coat. Good to go for a fraction of the price. Just throwing it out there! Once it’s not -30 where I live I’ll build a thread when I strip and paint mine. Nice forum with lots of info! Thanks for the removal tips! (I realize this is a 3rd Gen thread :) ) same idea though haha

You can do whatever you want to do haha. If you want a quick black setup just plastidip them...

    Wrapping would be ideal imo.

You can scuff and primer then paint. It will look good. It will just be pone to chipping off. Especially on the front of the vehicle like your mirrors.

I ended up plasti dipping mine back in 2014.....not using a sharpie. I just redid it this year as it was starting to peel. I also hit is with a couple coats of clear coat to shine it up and it looks greater and heals up pretty good.

I am in the process of painting mine. I f-ed some stuff up on it so I gotta respray a bit hopefully this weekend. If you are going to spray them, you need to use a paint adhesive base coat. A few coats 3 min apart, top coat with something before the last coat of adhesive dries. Its a bitch to not get orange peel with a rattle can though. I fed up trying to color sand and didn't have deep enough coverage on some edges....mostly due to the way I was spraying.

Looked into getting the color matched door handles and mirror caps for my cement Tundra.

    Mirror caps: $85.48
    Door handles: $387.15

Was told that Toyota does not provide door handles in cement, so the dealership has to have them painted. There is a $150 increase for this service over the standard black door handles ($170.58).

Maybe I'll wait on this mod. $472.60 is much more than I was prepared to pay. But I love the look!

    Hello,

Anyone still have any chrome door handles and/or mirror caps they would like to get rid of. I would definitely pay shipping and I would be very grateful. I am looking to swap mine out for chrome. Thank you for your time. Rob Win0328@aol.com

    None. Keeping this one stock.
Anyone. Price the painted mirror caps, on window side, have a slight over hang. Versus the stock black ones? Not a big deal, just what I noticed. Installed today. Looks great.

Same here. Screw dropped into door on one of the handles. Luckily I have about 1000 random screws, bolts, nuts, washers leftover from past projects. Found one that was a perfect match.

There are plastic clips on either side of the screw head. Check to make sure they are not bent or missing. They hold the screw in place.

Got my 040 Super White Mirror Caps on today following the instructions, and only ran into one minor issue. Not too hard to get the chrome ones off once I found the tabs, but struggled to get the new white ones on. Just could not get everything lined up at the same time, and I was afraid I would break off a tab or two before forcing them into place...

...Until I grabbed a bottle of spray wax to lubricate the tabs and spots where they were hanging up --five seconds, job done! Painted plastic tabs against unpainted plastic goes a lot easier with a little lube.

Liking the new look. Chrome caps (2019 just a month old) free to good home if anyone needs them.

Yep. If my 2019 Limited had come with white mirror caps, I'd have probably wanted to change out to chrome; especially after reading this Forum for a while. Have to do things to my Tundra to personalize it; but, damn, reading this Forum gets expensive.!
