This is good to know. I was getting a little confused with the two places. Thanks

Use a thin piece of plastic to lift the edge of the plug - credit card or drivers license. When you lift the edge it will peel right out. Or a dental pic from harbor freight works well.

Great thread as this is the first thing I want to do to my newly purchased 14' Tundra Platinum. I'm not a flashy guy, so off with the chrome mirrors and door handles, but BEEP the midnight black set is pricey ( $489.85 + shipping)

Are you sure? It looks like about $212 if my math is right. (mirror cap set: $82, door handle set: $130 (crewmax))

Yeah you're right. I was looking at Onyx black. Apologies. Wonder why so much...

Not sure, but it makes me want to deal with the chrome for awhile. Especially considering I can get a bed cover for that price or different step bars.

I just got the flat black ones with QS mirror caps. This was probably the easiest mod I've done to a vehicle. Took less than 10 minutes and made a noticeable difference in appearance as well!

Pretty easy. Just wish I had something to do with these chrome door handles I took off. Anyone interested in a set? Just pay the shipping...

Has anyone else had issues with the fit when installing new mirror caps? I just ordered a set and am wondering if I just got a funky set. The driver side cap snapped right on but did not sit flush with the body of the mirror on the edge closest to the truck. The chrome cap I took of was very flush. The passenger side cap wouldn't snap on at all. I even took it in to my local dealer and the tech couldn't get it to snap on. It seemed that the length of the tabs on the new caps were quite long enough to snap in place so I measured them and sure enough, a couple of them are about 1/8 inch shorter than the tabs on the original chrome caps.

I'm going to return these caps but was wondering if anyone else had issues before I order a new set. Trying to decide if I want to order a new set or just make the jump to tow mirrors.

I had the same fit with my replacements. Drivers side inside is just a little bit high. "I" notice it but I don't think anyone else would. The passenger side fits fine.

More annoying than I expected but got it done.

I'm also a moron and ordered 2 sets so I have spare MGM both sides if anyone wants them. If not I'll initiate a return this evening.

Parts came in three days early. Took me a while to get the mirror cap replace. Didn't snap in as easy as the video. The door handle was a breeze after watching the video guide.

Finally got to my door handles today. I did the mirror caps a few weeks back. I'm thinking I may try to color match my handles, I have the black ones on now and chrome just sitting there and I doubt they'd sell. Which would be easier to color match?

Well...door handles were a joke they were so easy... unfortunately the mirror caps are NOT so easy. Driver side FINALLY came off without breaking any tabs...but was a slow process. Putting the new one on should be so easy... but it's not happening. The tabs are a bit different, but appear to be in the same places...any chance that I would've got the wrong color matched caps?

Are the caps/handles that come standard on the SR5 painted black or just plastic? Deciding between swapping out my chrome ones (HATE chrome) for the painted or the sr5 ones. I'm thinking if the sr5's are just plastic they will hold up better to road rash/scratches.

The handles for my Crewmax are black plastic, not painted. I'm assuming would be the same for sr5...I think the mirror caps are the same... unless you specifically order the painted black to match the truck color.

*UPDATE that might help some that are having a hard time with the mirror caps, like I did.
The initial directions say to simply push out the top 2 tabs to remove the caps...that DID NOT work for me... I finally followed the later instructions that state to push out the tab that is slightly lower (than the top ones) on the inside (closest to the truck) first. Once I did this, the cap came loose on that edge and I was literally able to easily grasp it and pop it off (pulling from the side closest to the truck, outward) without touching any other clips.
Then my problem was that the new caps would not snap on, as easily as they should. I fought with this quite a bit, and everytime I thought I had it snapped in place, the bottom outside edge would stick out...not clipped in properly at all.
I thought I was following the instructions of simply "hooking" the 4 bottom clips in first (original had 5 bottom clips, replacement did not have the center clip), then pushing the top edge to "snap" it all in place. After struggling with this, I looked and realized that some of the clips are a bit different shape/size than the originals...but they are in the same locations. I finally figured out that the long middle clip on the outside edge (away from the truck) was at a different angle than my original cap and, even though the top and bottom clips were in, this middle clip was keeping it from attaching properly. I found that if I kept the cap more flush to the mirror (instead of hooking bottom in first at a tilted angle) and kind of "slid" the cap from the inside toward the outside, that I could get that longer clip (middle, outside edge) to slide in place while simultaneously hooking the bottom clips in. After that, it really was just a matter of snapping all the top clips in and it worked like a charm. Following the same steps on the second mirror worked smoothly and was done in no time.
    Hope this helps...

I just swapped my chrome mirror caps with color match. Thanks @Roman. It literally took 7 minutes and that included me slugging down a cold beer! My chrome caps are free if anyone wants them. Just pay shipping.
