I have this high pitch whine at about 1500-1800 rpms then goes away. Extremely annoying. Had it with my RC cai and now with my SABM and K&N. I’ve had the new gasket without the filter. Could it be the hole in the bottom of the airbox to drain water? Im considering siliconing all around the SABM openings.

I have a feeling it is from the gap in the intake manifold right behind the throttle body. If you take the throttle body off you will see where the two pieces of the intake manifold were bonded together.

I’ll check it out tonight. Is there a fix you would recommend for that? Jb weld or tried and true duct tape lol

I haven’t had the guts to do anything about it because of the location and heat cycles whatever material I would put there would go through. I personally have just been trying to get used to it. That being said there is probably some epoxy that will handle it no problem

I tried to listen and it sounds like it’s coming from the airbox. Damn electronic throttles not letting me check solo. I’ll have to get someone to help tomorrow. I did notice a gap at the bottom corner. Not sure if this is due to the K&N. If it is the problem a inch space to raise the airbox might fix it. If it is what you said some foil tape would probably be best.

Let me know how it goes tomorrow. I remember noticing that gap with my KN filter, seems like it might be a tiny bit taller than the stock. If you have the stock air filter still it couldn’t hurt to compare. I unfortunately don’t have the stock air filter anymore

So I noticed I can only hear the noise above 4th gear at the above RPMs. I also no longer have a stock filter. I tried ratchet strapping the lid down and it didn’t help. I’m going to try high temp silicone the entire SABM and foil tape the area you mentioned tomorrow.

edit: I’m going to try just the foil first since I had this issue with my RC CAI.

I can hear mine in any gear, it is just dependent on throttle load.

So I can hear mine with stock airbox with K&N filter. SABM and K&N filter. RC CAI. Original gasket I cut the screen out. Relaced gasket with Sequoia one. Wrapped Intake with Foil Tape. Still hear this fucking noise lol wtf

did you see the gap I was talking about behind the throttle body inside the intake manifold? You would have to take the throttle body off to see it

Yes. You’re talking about where the two pieces of plastic connect or form together. I sealed any possible leak from the outside. I’m giving up on this lol. Next project is AIP relocation.

There would be no leak from the outside. What I am thinking is that area creates the whistle as the air rushes over the gap inside when the throttle body plate gets to the certain right position.

This is what I am talking about:

    upload_2021-3-26_9-27-20.jpg

My theory is that when the throttle body opens are a certain position it creates a whistle due to the edges of the gap. This photo is from right behind the throttle body

Now I get what you’re saying. That makes total sense. I’m definitely not going to mess with that being the inside and all. It would be nice to find some sort of sleeve to slip inside. Or maybe one of those TB spacers would change how the air flows over that gap.

I agree that it's a little scary to do anything inside there, that's why I was saying earlier I was scared to do any sort of epoxy or something to fill that space. A throttle body spacer might not be a bad idea! I am thinking this is a culprit because the way the throttle body opens it would direct the air straight down over those ridges.

Ever since I ported and polished my TB (few days ago) I can only hear the sound in certain gears. So a spacer may be the fix.

Awesome! Thank you for sticking with it, I had basically given up. Even if it doesn't fix it you will make a little more power maybe!

Got the spacer today and installed. Won’t be able to test it out until later tonight or tomorrow morning. Hopefully this is the answer. :fingerscrossed:

Typically a TB spacer creates a whistle, so I’m interested in hearing your results.

Okay the high pitched whistle is gone. Now I have this annoying turbo sound lol. If I port/polish the spacer that turbo sound. So the next step is try that or go the jb weld route. Anyone know if jb weld plastic actually welds or is it more like a bandage?

I don't know if it has the same effect. I would think there would be lots of different epoxys that would work

Picked up some JB Weld Plastic Bonder and going to try it tomorrow. That turbo sound is obnoxious lol

I also bought the sequoia gasket and now have an even louder whistle then before...it almost sounds like a very faint turbo spooling noise. But it only occurs at a certain rpm/loud between 1500 and 2k.

I would not advise putting jb weld inside of your intake tube, if it happened to break lose you just sent those pieces in your engine...

I didn’t use the JB Weld. I ported and polished the spacer and still have the issue. Unlike Sitting Sideways my gap inside goes down and around. Took off the spacer and back to suffering.
