I've seen mention of various discontinued Parts. Some only available in one color, others only available from a third party... Others only available in reman form... Some are not available anywhere but the used/salvage market...

How would we all feel about establishing one thread to track and catalogue these PNs as we come across them and discover quality (or only) alternatives?

Seems like new parts get added to the disco list all the time, but some havn't crept thru the years yet. Like, rear drum adjusters went NLA for earlier years back in 2022, I think, and they're still available for newer. I think that's what makes it so hard to make a thread like that; not consistent.

Any you think should be purchased from Toyota now ? At risk?

    Basically, proactive parts hoarding

I've mentioned a couple. I bought interior door handles, and about 4 months later I heard people start saying they were NLA in anything other then beige, and the alternative color's part numbers redirected to the beige part number.

I suspect the window mouldings/sweeps that eventually have the black flake off will probably go NLA in the next couple years, but there's currently an equivalent aftermarket option, and frankly, I think people are crazy for repainting them when it's so damn easy to use vinyl wrap on them.

I have my suspicions they'll quit making the 3rd brake light assembly eventually.

I didn't have them discontinuing remanufactured CV axles on my bingo card. But you can still get new ones, so that's awesome.

    Yeah, I dunno...

It's also getting tough, because Denso has clearly been having availability issues (or discontinuing) fuel pumps and alternators for our trucks. You can still buy them from Toyota, so I assume Toyota has a shedload warehoused somewhere, or maybe Denso is only making enough to supply Toyota.

I had a heck of a time finding a brake master cylinder. Went with a Napa premium and it has been great.

The thing to do is to find a forum member that does 3d printing and set him up with a good scanner & good material. I’ve got a welder & hammer for the metal stuff, but tiny plastic stuff on the inside is what’ll kill this truck.

If you poke and prod a little bit, you'd be very surprised what is still available as far as factory parts. The first gens are old, but there are thousands of them still on the road.

The dealership parts departments will throw their arms up in defeat a little too soon when trying to find certain parts...chassis parts, fuel system parts etc. I think it's an act most of the time. If you tell them you are willing to wait as long as it takes, you will usually get a phone call from them in a couple/few days and they'll tell you they've found exactly what you were looking for. Of course, only if you pay for them up front and on-the-spot.

Agreed. I can still find almost all of what I'm hunting for....only exception - sunroof parts.
