Just so I understand correctly, a negative offset will push the wheel out from the axle allowing a wider width tire, while a positive offset will bring the wheel closer to the axle therefore needing a narrow width tire? am I correct in understanding this?

Stock Tundra wheels have an offset of +60mm, +18 would be close to the edge of the fenders with the tire depending on tire width, -12 would stick out past the fenders

Just a few, more to come
The difference in -12mm and +18mm is about 1 1/8" farther stick out. That makes for a larger steering scrub radius and leads to the fender rubbing when turning.
If you like the look of the truck as is, just cut! As long as the cutting is done cleanly it'll look fine up close and have the stance you're looking for. A cab mount chop will likely be needed, and from there a bit of sheet metal and some of the plastic fender well liners.

If you wish to cut less aggressively (though you'll definitely still need to cut... CMC likely), you could keep the same tire size and run the +18mm offset wheels and have less scrub and it would be an easier job to get the big meats to fit.

I've seen the -12 offset work with 35" tires but, it was with a BDS 7" lift. Several companies that make lifts for Tundras (Fabtek, BDS/Zone) stipulate a 5" back set which, I believe, is -12 on a 10" wheel. At least that's the way I remember it when I looked at those options.

You could look at the space for tires as a hole, the optimum offset is around 30-35 (for 9 inch width). I've seen a truck with 30 mm offset with 35x12.5 with only 2.5 inch lift with no rubbing. Higher offset moves the tires toward the inner edge of the hole. Lower offset moves the tires toward the outer edge of the hole. Closer you move to the edge, the maximum tire size you could install without rubbing gets smaller.

Higher offset will cause rubbing with suspension and skid plate. This typically is a problem with stock wheels (60 mm offset) with too large tires. Lower you go, the tires will come closer to the body mount. For 18 mm offset, the maximum size tire that you could install is just about 295/70/18. I knew that going in, but I was amazed how close the tires come to the body mount (but no rubbing). With 0 offset, anything larger than 33 diameter will likely require the body mount to be cut. Negative offset will make rubbing even worse.

For me, I was not willing to chop the body mount. But in order to make your set-up work, it seems that you have two choices. One option is to cut away all the fender/frame until there's no more rubbing. The Tundra Pro that won Baja 1000 had 37 inch tires as I remember. The other option is to lift the truck higher. I think an easier option is to go with 295/70/18 with 18 mm offset. (Don't get wider than 9 inches though)

I have to add, every truck is slightly different so there's a little variation with what works.

16CMT.....I definitely agree the offset is the problem, I rubbed with +18 on my SST 4" leveling kit when I first got them. It wasn't until I had about 10K miles on the tires until I stopped rubbing at full lock. if its rubbing at the plastic inner fender directly behind the fog lights you can unbolt that inner fender, heat it up with a heat gun and push it in and re mount it to the inside of the brace instead of the outside of the brace closest to the tire using the existing holes. That's what we just had to do on my truck when I went to 20x10 -24 offset, even on the BDS 7"

You're gonna need a CMC on anything running +18 and less with a 305-70-18. Your brand of tire will slightly change by the millimeter but not enough to resolve clearance issues. If you want that look by all means you should stick with the 305*70*18 as that measurement is pretty much parallel to the 35*12.50*18. You're gonna need to modify the plastics on the lower portion of the front bumper too. This is all minor work to help you achieve the desired look you're going for. If you're stuck with that wheel; you're gonna have to come down on tire size to prevent some rubbing (though you'll still need to cut/trim some)

thanks everyone for your input. mine hardly rubs and i'm not ton worried about it. soon when i get my fab fours bumper, ok have the alignment shop push my cast forward a tiny bit and it should be fine. my friends 08 tundra is running exact set up at mine but his cleared after i trimmed just a cunthair from his bumper which he didn't mind cutting, so it worked out.

16cmt.....good news is it looks sick the way it is, you gotta pay to play, and for a little rubbin I wouldn't change a thing. I lost turning radius and a lot of MPGs when I changed mine but its all worth it.

I'm running 305/60/18's with a +18. I just had to take the front side mud flap off. I have a Pro with stock suspension. I was told to keep the inside line of the tire as close as possible to the stock tire and push all the extra to the outside to keep from having issues. But my tires are considered short 33's.

I'm running 295 70 18 with 0 offset no cab mount chop just in liner cut and mud flap removal but even th cab mount it a easy job that takes little welding skill the over head is the only party that sucks a little

As u can see in the pic they stick out nicely and look aggressive

That looks good with 0 offset. I'm still debating the 0 or -12 on probably that same tire, 295/7018
I'll just chop whatever needs to be done.

I really like the stance, I've ordered the 305 70 18s stt pros, 3" lift will be in by end of the week. Just need to decide on the offset. Maybe I'll stick with 0 offset like Xtyfighterx said then when I add flares it'll still look good. What do you guys think?

it rubs just a hair on the cab mount where it's cut and welded. now that i have all the clearance in the front, all i need to do is take is to a 4x4 alignment shop and have them push my cast forward and i should clear everything.
