Well I can't say what it all means for me but I do have an unusual experience myself. I have a 2007 Crewmax with some generic A/T tires (new) on it and it is excellent in the wet and ice. I also have a 2014 Doublecab with Toyo Open Country A/T (nearly new) tires and it has always had trouble getting traction in the wet and ice from a stop. To the point of using 4hi in the rain at times. When it comes to traction my 07 beats the 2014 hands down and my 14 has a canopy on the back and my 07 has nothing. It may be the tires, as the Toyos are 10-ply and seem harder than the ones from discount tire. When I am in the snow/wet/ice in 4hi, both trucks are absolute beasts and kick ass.

Toyo at must be a very hard tire. They have a 55k mile warranty. Which is very high for such an open block tread

Post is apropos...I'm about to get into a Crewmax TRD OR SR5 in a couple weeks.
I'm coming from a 2004 Z71 which has Auto 4WD. It's perfect for driving in the rain (don't really need to worry about snow and ice here in central TX), especially on worn BFG's. That's really the only time I used the Auto.
Good info here for me on the nannies that come on the Tundra.

I would check your tire pressure with what is recommended on drivers door frame any thing over and tires will spin easier

Mines awesome in snow, ice, slush, etc. I got rid of the stock tires a couple days after buying. Got some duratracs. Those are great in snow and slush as well as ice.

That's because it's a truck with a light back end. All trucks have this weakness.

I street park at work, I noticed 4HI lets me crush and park over snow banks most cars/SUVs avoid. I'm pretty happy with my Nitto Ridge Grapplers as all weather tires.

I'd probably shorten my stopping distance if I had dedicated snow tires but the current traction is already good. Last couple of weeks had mother nature lay down ice rinks on our roads, and the city gets to the small streets last. No issues here.

I think this turns the auto lsd ON. You wouldnt turn it off if you were lacking traction[/QUOTE]
So there’s two lights lit up. Just the lad and the car with squiggles? Plus tow haulmode of course. Or is there another VSC light that should be on? I do well in snow with but just curious

My friend with a dodge got in and was like what’s wrong what are the lights on your dash. I just smiled and romped on it and fishtailed out of his driveway and down the road and said. It’s broken while laughing

Agree, the truck drives so much better without the traction control. Worthless program

Went to day to the World Ag expo and Toyota is the sponsor so they had there 4x4 out there but wouldn't let to public test them today due to the bad rain we had that made the pit they made real slippery and muddy so they were the ones driving us around and I was surprised how well the Tundra with TRD pro exhaust performed. They also gave us a ride on 4runner but performance was not as good due to 1500 lbs lighter

That rear TRD Sway Bar is not helping this Tundra in this off road situation. Rear axle articulation is almost non existent. Not to mention no load on the bed.

I take the alloy wheels off with the summer tires and run Steel wheels with Hakkapeliittaa(sp) snow tires on all four corners, Tundra goes through anything!!!!

I've actually been very impressed with how well my Tundra with the stock Michelins handles snow in 2WD.

Also if you're engaging 4WD for rain or just wet roads, you're doing it wrong.

You have gotta be kidding me about the OP’s complaint about awful traction. There is alottttttt of snow where I live, and ice, and this truck is a friggin tank. I will admit I run studded Cooper Discoverer M+S on it, but there’s nothing like turning that knob and locking 4x4 in and knowing its locked in and not waiting for the vehicle to think about(and possibly too late)whether or not it should be and what tire should get the power. We have long cold winters here, have tried a Highlander and Subaru 4wd systems too. Our Tundra and 4Runner are incredible in slippery conditions and my wife has no problem pulling that old school knob back in her Trail when needed.

First winter I had my tundra it was bad. Whatever tires were on them was a joke that has a hugeee part. A lot of dealers say “we put brand new tires on it too!! Woo freaking hoo”. It was my first truck so I didn’t know better but I looked them up later and realized they were crap like 150$ a tire highway bs no traction. Lesson learned
