    How to install:
These are pretty easy to install. Takes about 10 minutes. You'll need a T30 driver to remove the taillight (passengers side for this) and maybe a small flat screw driver if the factory plug is too tight to pull off easily.
    1. Start by removing the Passengers side tail light.
    2. Go ahead and use the included long zip tie to mount the relay to the webbing support of the bed, like so:
    Mounting Relay.jpg
Now, you will take the small wire lead with the braided loom and hook it in-line with the reverse light plug (the one in the middle of the tail light):
    Reverse tap 1.jpg
    Like this:
    Reverse tap 2.jpg
Now, you can take the other wire lead that is in the vinyl sleeve and drop it down below the tail light. You will have to get under the back of the truck at this point to route it over:
    Routing 1.jpg
You can see how I went above the frame here:
    Routing 2.jpg
We are trying to get that big wiring tee over to this plug:
    Routing 2_5.jpg
Once there, you can disconnect that connector and put this one in between it. The colors on the wires should be close, so you should be able to tell if you have the right one. The one closest to the outside passengers fender isn't the one you want. You have to cross the frame.
    Routing 3.jpg
Now, test it out. Have someone turn on the parking lights and put the truck in reverse. The license plate lights should turn off, and turn back on when the truck isn't in reverse anymore. If everything works, go ahead and secure the wires with the zip ties and reinstall the tail light. Now you can enjoy a glare free reverse experience :)

    I'ma ask dumbass question, why?
Not being rude at all, just not hip on why one would need the license plate light out in reverse?

I get it. I designed the thing when Dave came to me with the idea, and I thought the same thing  After seeing it action though, it really does make a difference. The way Toyota angled the license plate lights on the Tundra and Tacoma is just dumb, so it shines up into the camera. These really help eliminate the glare (and there is glare, regardless of what bulbs you have. It is definitely worse if you have upgraded the bulbs to an LED though). Check out the post on TacomaWorld though, there are pictures of it in action and you can see the difference.

Thanks for the great explanation now I understand completely!
I've never gotten used to the backup cam,I use my door mirrors, so I didn't think about the glare.

My Tacoma is the first car I've ever owned with a back up camera. It took about a week, and I'm ruined for cars that don't have them now :) I get it though, mirrors are still nice. I have a topper, so its a little hard to gauge distance though (at least for me), so the camera is a god-send for that.

Reduces the glare when reversing, the reverse lights are in the camera’s view and it’s more difficult to see. With the license plates’ lights off it’s clear as can be. See the link above to the TacomaWorld thread, there are pics that show a big difference

I got my harness yesterday and installed it in 15mins this morning—super easy. The "hardest" part was squinting from all the dirt falling on my face from inside my rear bumper while running the wire across haha. I never thought of this until seeing the thread the other day but I feel like its one of those nice to have features esp with LED licence plate bulbs

My Tundra has 14 extra years of dirt. Maybe car wash coupons would be good too.

@Puppypunter what other wires are running through the larger T connector (the one we mount under the bed)? I am only ask for the sake of curiosity and if anyone down the road should run into any type of troubleshooting issues.
    Thanks!

I am honestly not positive about all of them. I believe they are all related to the sensors in the rear. There are 5 other wires there (the sensors do share the common ground though, I know that from the testing phase of this). I’ll see if I can get the pin out. It wasn’t with the lighting diagrams.
