I definitely recommend the helmholtz to everyone. But, for some guys, the drone is actually desired.

As far as drone goes, an 8” without helmholtz is less drone than most systems available for our trucks.

That said, and 8” with helmholtz is in some cases quieter than stock depending on speed/rpm etc.

Speaking of the helmholtz, in case anyone is interested. I asked Keith about the benefits of mounting it to the tail pipe versus building it into the muffler. He told me that the tail pipe location results a greater reduction in drone due to the frequencies it cancels out in that location.

Keith, correct me if I got this wrong.

I recently added his dual tailpipe resonators to my factory TRD exhaust. It sounds like stock OEM now unless you bury the throttle, and even then it’s not that loud.

SoCal here and keith mentioned the same to me. I went with the aluminized 8".

It’s true. Way more effective at removing drone when in the tailpipe separated from the system compared to being built into the system.

This. This makes me feel better about my 8" without resonator. I am a fan of tastefully loud exhaust.

Depends what part of the PNW you're in :p

Correct me if im wrong, @dirtydeeds , but I remember you telling me that a dumped exhaust surprisingly has the opposite effect of what you might think in terms of drone. Dumping an exhaust actually produces less cab drone then exiting the tailpipe?

I thought he said the opposite of that. That if you don't want drone you definitely don't want a dump, and that the dump will cost you some low end torque because of lost back pressure.

I could be totally wrong. My memory ain't what it used to be.

Normally it’s way more drone. But for some reason our standard systems dumped have a lot less drone than they should. But it is there still.

That said, not dumped, is stock quiet most of the time inside the cab, unless you gun it, then it’s very agressive.

That’s if you’re in the 1st wave of shipping I believe. I’m in the 5th wave so I’m looking at the end of October. I wish I haven’t dragged my feet but I think with these savings it’ll be well worth the wait!

Said it a hundred times but I was fortunate enough to have called Keith about 2 days before the group buy in which he informed me about and as far as I know I'm #2 so I'll be first run, can't wait for my 8" system :bananadance:

I've owed nothing but V8's (GM 5.7's and one 5.3) with factory exhaust so I don't even know what drone is. If I cant deal with it the $100 will fix it, for now I'm going to try without the resonator.

The resonator is $150-$200 if you buy it separately, so I’d suggest just getting it with the system now. You can run without it at first to see

Is it as simple as installing the exhaust without it at first? I ordered mine with the resonator.
