I didn’t measure the torque. Just tightened as much as I could, shake the end, and repeated the process a couple of times. Few days later after some driving, rechecked and retightened.

Sorry for the late follow up but it has been hectic lately. It’s given me a bit more time to use and reflect on the TrailSwing though.

I’m mostly happy with mine too. Seems like it’ll last a while, good install videos, and made in the US.

My biggest complaint is that the welds look like crap. Lots of splatter, overflow, and even a burn through or missed fill. There are spots where the welds interfere with the tire mount bracket so much it was difficult to get more than a thread or two engagement while starting the nuts.

First picture is the burn through or missed fill. I’ll probably just fill it with JB weld or something to stop water from getting in and continuing rust. The other pics are just the general poor weld quality/splatter.

    Minor gripes/honest mistakes:
    • Previously discussed, but they hand threaded on the wrong nut. I went to torque it down and it pulled the threads out. No damage to the threads on the bolt so I was able to replace it with the proper nut. They recently switched thread pitch on this part so things got confused. No biggie.
    • No rotopax spacer included. I don’t need one but thought it was supposed to come with it.
    • Trail bracket came bent. It was bent before powder coat so it wasn’t a shipping issue, it was a QC issue. It shouldn’t affect my use though so not a huge deal. Picture below which also showcases some more dookie welds.

Wow, they must have hired a new welder for mine has none of that. I think overall, you’ll be ok, but for the price we paid, it should be near perfect. Have you mentioned these to them?

No I didn’t bother. The welds look bad but they’ll hold. I mostly didn’t want to deal with return shipping.

Understandable, but you may want to mention it to AJ (owner) so that their welder can polish up his/her skills for future customers. Just so he knows that they can improve on their quality.

Right now, I’m not too happy with DortCom. The bolt for the tension wedge broke on my Teailswing HD. This bolt is a fixed part of the lower fixed arm. Their new design allows the tension bolt to be replaced if need be. Anyhow, have been in contact with DirtCom and we agreed to send me a new lower fixed arm which I would dissemble my TrailSwing to replace. It is now going on months and many, many emails and I’m still waiting with no update. I have taken it off the truck because it was becoming too dangerous to keep on. I like their product but their business operations and follow through is terrible.

agreed, especially with their powder coating for me.
OP, is yours an old design? aka is the lower hitch part solid tube or hallow?

I am trying to determine if mine is the new version or the old one.

    Thanks

The internal is solid and cannot be changed out. Thus the reason why the lower fixed arm must be replaced. The new design with replaceable tension wedge was released within the last year. Not exactly sure when.

if anyone speaks with them make sure to mention that they are getting a reputation for poor follow though and customer service.

I got mine late October 2022, would that be their new design?

I will do when I have the chance. Thanks for the info.

Mine was from March ‘22 with the old design so I don’t know when they implemented the new design.
