Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...the only thing my wife will be interested in is telling me how bad an idea it is, and reminding me of my friend's broken leg.

But, maybe I'll blackmail her with the side by side.

You're a young man, bud. I didn't start riding my own, until I was 54, a YZ125. That was after I bought a Yamaha 350 Warrior. I Found the 'finesse' factor to be absolutely true. You balance a bike, and wrestle a quad. I chose wrestling over balancing. Get out there or you'll always regret not doing it. Ride on, brother......ride on!

Haha, can't say I blame her, you really need to worry if she ups your life insurance and tried talking you into getting the fastest one.

Good luck! You won't regret it, unless you break your leg, then you might.

How was the 125cc? I'd thought about going with a 125, since I don't have any interest in getting wild on it. I'd just like to ride around on trails and things.

It was a two stroke, but it was tall. My short legs were a challenge when stopping on the trails. LOL!

I have been racing dirt bikes since 1975 and there is no way I would EVER let a beginner of any age ride a 450cc Motocross bike. That's like giving an Indy car to a Driver's Ed student.
The advice of a CRF230 is perfect, I great beginner's bike that is bullet-proof. Because I was an active-duty Marine my two Sons never had dirt bikes until they were both grown men. I got them a CRF100 to learn on and in just a few months they transitioned to KX250Fs and began racing about 6 months after that. Having an experienced coach/mentor will help the process a lot.

At 6'4" and 235 (and almost 50yrs old) I need a big pussycat of a bike.
Good ol' old school WR426 will still push my big ass around the trails as fast as I shouldn't be going :D

What product do you guys use to clean your machines? I’ve been using a pressure washer and simple green and I always seem to be missing something. A day or two later my Quad is super dirty looking. Any ideas?

Slick Wash! It is amazing. I bought it for dirt bikes but I use it on everything now. :)

Sounds good! I’m sort of extra when it comes to clean stuff and taking care of things. Hopefully these things work and if they don’t then I’ll try something different ‍♂️.

@drobb we have 2 400ex’s as well, wondering if you’ve done any mods to keep the bikes cooler in the heat? Obviously driving easier is good for heat management, and in the sand here (we go to the Oregon dunes often) we are revving it out quite good and you can really feel the motor heat coming off the engine. Any ideas?

Do a search for 400ex air shroud or air scoop..... there are several different manufacturers..... they seem to work well. Hope this helps

Interesting. We have air shrouds on one machine and none on the other and can’t seem to tell a difference. I know there are extra high capacity external oil containers, but other than that maybe just easier driving will do then good with heat too.

Gotta love the 400ex.. those two are really nice. Can't find em in that good of shape around here. Here is my baby. FYI, I run a temp gauge in the oil tank cap to monitor temps. 400ex.jpg I have a 2002 red one.. plenty of quad for me here in NJ. In the winter I run Maxxis 4sno's as paddle tires.. love them..

They sure are amazing machines. They hold their value so well and are dead reliable. Good enough power and will take you where you need to. Your guy’s machines are really sharp!

@Architect where did you get those rear tires? Can’t seem to find them on Rocky Mountain ATV/MC. Those are sweet tires.

Yes that one works! Thank you! I’ve got maxis razors as well, and I thought the ones you had were a little different, but maybe I’m just seeing it weird. Thank you @Architect!

Great thread! We’ve been shopping Tundras for the very purpose of dirt biking! My son and I have dabbled in riding for a few years but this past year have gone full bore (well, I’m a late starter and old, but having a blast...my son is 14 and progressing well.)

Been pulling a small trailer behind the Sequoia, but a Tundra will be ideal. Nice to see location pics and riding vids here. Some cool recs too (ready ramp & nice rack).

My 2018 300xc and my son’s 2020 125sx (and ‘19 Sequoia TRD Sport) at a recent ride at Red River in North Texas.
