That set and color in your pic is the same set my parents had when I was a kid. Damn. Thanks for bringing me down memory lane! Serious hit of nostalgia looking at those.

Chris, if you're still looking, try going to estate sales in your area. It may take some time, but you'll find a set that you and your wife like for a LOT cheaper than buying new. You may even find some other interesting things.

It really is. They couldn’t afford to buy the recycled glass anymore. The recycle companies they were getting the glass from kept raising prices due to profits from shipping it over seas. They couldn’t compete without raising their prices. You’d think local companies would get first dibs on something that doesn’t cost much to obtain… but money :notsure:
In the end people are paying $100’s for a plate that was $18 so I guess if the costs of materials went up they could have tried passing that to the consumer until it didn’t work. At this point from what I’ve seen on the secondary market it looks like they could have still been in business even with rising costs in obtaining materials. It really is a cool way to recycle glass.

Not a bad idea. We have the prestigious "Broadmoor" area that has some pretty crazy estate sales. I have a friend that purchased a German schrank and table set worth over 12k for under 3k from that area. Lots of crazy "old" money from that area of the city.

We go to a lot of estate sales and we have found replacement pieces for our MIKASA set this way. Amazed we found the same pattern and even expanded from 8 to 12 settings.

You can find them on FB Market as well.

World market- cheap and easy to replace. Have had super nice stuff in the past but it’s truly worthless with a toddler in the house and another on the way
