Got daytime pics? Looks awesome man. You’re doing this and meanwhile I can’t seem to stop the hyper flash from my turn signals regardless of what resistor I use :)

This is from about a week ago.

Slowly but surely getting everything finalized and going back and forth on adding new pages with more data. Still trying to crack the TPMS

In addition to Gear shift position, how about which gear the transmission is in when in Drive.

    Nice work!

This is probably one of the best projects I have seen.
I would love to have the knowledge to be able to do this. Computers and I are not friends.

Data points I would be willing to pay for:

    Volts
    MPG data (historical & real-time)
    Fuel (remaining amount)

About 9 months ago when I would read the word CAN bus I just kinda skimmed over it because I didn’t understand it.

After lots of research and testing I have a much better understanding of how it works. It’s a lot like a conference call with multiple people at work. You talk into the phone and your message is broadcast to everyone else all on the same one phone line. In CAN each message has an address that gives it priority depending on how important it is. All 8-10 ECUs talk on the same line and they all see every message sent out but if it doesn’t apply to that particular ECU it’s just ignores it.

I go back and forth on the voltage value. The gauge in the cluster is analog. Only way I know how to get the digital value is to ask the ecu for it on the bus. (This is how all of OBD2 works, you ask for the value and it replies with it)
As of now my entire setup is read only but I could implement code to go ask for a value and read the return.

Mpg info I have all of. It’s all based on speed, distance, and fuel burned.

Fuel level remaining I have but it still needs small refinement. The sensor in the tank moves a lot when driving so the data has a lot of noise. I have code that filters it very well but it’s not quite 100% on the money all the time. (Very close)

For those of us that drive in foreign countries, like Canada, it would be awesome to have the ability to switch over to Kilometers on that digital speedo you created.

I knew someone would mention this
The funny thing is since the truck is Japanese all data is sent in metric units. The raw speed signal is in KmH and my code is converting it to Mph.

Long story short a metric version can be done. Temperature in C ect.

Are you freaking kidding me? The data already there and being converted but we can’t just click a damned button and switch the digital display to constant KPH. I am so frigidly bitter now…

What's your status with reading TPMS from the LIN? Which transceiver did you go with, or was it an add-on board? As I don't have an oscilloscope (yet) I can't use serial decode to reverse their IDs and messages.

I'm wrapping up a Raspberry Pi/Open Auto Pro install and wanting to incorporate tire pressures for a separate OLED display.

This is great! Just joined this group this morning. I have been looking everywhere for ways to get get the 2018 info cluster into my 2015. Put me on the list for purchase once this is ready. .... On another note orange virus tuning Guys are also great at hacking Toyota codes etc. They might be another good source for info. Anything I can do to help ,let me know Jeff !!!

I am still on the fence about making a 2018+ translator so that cluster could be plug and play in the 2014-2017 trucks. It would spoof all the safety sense stuff so you don’t get any of the digital on screen warnings and it would translate some of the data from the 2014-2017 truck into a format that the 2018 cluster is looking for.

Not sure how high the demand for something like this would be

Still working on TPMS, I have a stand-alone LIN chip but I yet to wire it up to my arduino yet and try to start reading data. I have a good idea what addresses the data is stored on just need to setup the reader

Jeff, you are an unbelievable wealth of knowledge. I would never have dreamed that there was that much going on in the cast cluster. The 2018 drop in would be great also. What really spoiled me was : my last company vehicle was a newer ram, and I just loved the " usable" information on the cluster. Great work.

Its been a few weeks so I figured I would give you guys an update. I have spent the last month recoding my Fuel Consumption signal and data coming from it.

I now have 5 pages of data to scroll through in the display. I think I will add two more pages, one for TPMS of all 4 wheels/tires and one more page for Forward Acceleration, Side Acceleration, Steer Angle, and Yaw Angle.

All of the photos are filled with dummy values to give you and idea of the look.

    Page 1 Speed
    upload_2022-3-14_18-52-46.jpg

Page 2 Fuel Instant MPG, Avg MPG, Range, Fuel Remaining in Tank
    upload_2022-3-14_18-54-3.jpg

Page 3 Fuel Burn Rate GPH, Total Gallons Burned, Trip Distance Driven, Engine Run Time (Secs for now)
    upload_2022-3-14_18-55-21.jpg

Page 4 Engine RPM, Throttle % (This is % actual Pedal is pressed)
    upload_2022-3-14_18-56-15.jpg

Page 5 Engine Coolant Temperature, Transmission Temperature
    upload_2022-3-14_18-57-7.jpg

Still making good progress working all the final bugs and tweaks out of the code. It has been going pretty well so far, I have done several miles of highway testing and hope to be able to post a video soon showing full operation.

I don’t suppose any of the ECUs broadcasting into the CAN bus provide data on the roll angle and pitch of the truck that you could convert into a visualization - a digital inclinometer?

sure, you can place those sensors at the location on the truck and have them broadcast via CAN bus and display the results on the display.
