Good catch. I've also noticed the side door trim is different on some years. DC and AC trim not the same. Not sure about 05-06 access cabs though.

A lot of things on the DC trucks are different, trim, body panels, lights, bed, and tailgate.

There was also the change in the transmission planetary gear set in 03? there were some failures in the older trucks.

Are the lower control arms from the 05-06 interchangeable with an 01? As in direct bolt on? I know the lower ball joints have a different bolt pattern and they were built beefier to reduce the failure in them.

I plan to source one from a pull it yard and do same thing. Variavle geometry intake plenums def work...prob wont see the gains of one paired with vvti but you should see increase in tq and hp from "intake runner lenghth " tuning. Longer runners in theory =more tq, change over to short * should increase ~higher rpm HP. I dont think its ever been dyno proven....but lots of oem added variable geometry intake mani's in the 2000's to squeeze more ponies out of existing engine architecture. And obviously higher end vehicles had them in the 90's. As reference, running length "tuning" is a known functional mod on other platforms. VW/Audi/BMW all did this and most combined with "insert oe name of variable valve timing" to maximize gains. I would think on our motors, the addition of a less prone to heat soak material and intake pulse tuning would net a solid 10WHP....but this is total speculation.

Example : VW 2.5 CYL non,-turbo motors ( found in newer rabit/jetta models have dyno proven gains of 30whp ( which is huge for a 2.5 -5cyl motor)

Almost wish my starter would take a crap so I had a real reason to pull the intake mani and upgrade.

Also I think the later model tundra's have more hardy spider gears. This is off memory. Im sure someone in here can chime in on that. If I could do it over, i would upgrade my 02 to the newer style knuckle/lbj as they did it for a reason and I believe the LBJ has extra bolt compared to 00-02 models. This is off memory from reading Shifty's threads.

Real helpful info would be to know at what vac the valve switches to short runner lenghth and if this correspondes with vvti tuning. Our engines (00-02l only make what 245hp at 4800? Later make near 300? Since our V8 achitecture likes to rev ( for a truck/not a s2000 lol) im assuming all the later model ganes come from the vario geometry intake and majority vvti. But, id be shocked if adding decreased power. Dirtydeeds seems to think their are some butt dyno gains. If anyone has your motor apart, measure the plenum lenghth for us 1st gen nerds.

I think you mean planetary gear. They put in a stronger one starting in 03.

Yes, i lnow Keith has similiar thinking to I. But id dont recall claiming proof of any gains. .....but it was changes....and more power was gained..my guess, if you looked at a dynojet 248 ect plot...you could easily pick out the plenum "flap" , then if you captures logs i bet the vvti advanes more aggressively then early motors. Im no pyscic but lol

Yes, thanks brother. Bottom line. The older the first gen the more improvements were made. I personally can do without additional emissions devices, but Id love the newer box /planetary gears, bumper-flush mout for trailer light connection ect.
