    It's all good Phil.

This is my point, we need to be accurate on here than some other places. I have seen over the past 5 years on more occasions than I would like to admit people buying the wrong truck. I have been guilty on here posting pics of my CM truck grossly overloaded, and that was my stupid ass for doing it....and regret it.

I get that diesels have their pros, but I honestly think people clamber about them so much is because we always want what we can't have. Any truck manufacturer could put a Cummins engine in a rolling turd (Dodge) and they would still sell like hotcakes and so Toyota passing on it should speak volumes.
Diesels have their place, I'm just not convinced that they are worth it in a half ton daily driver.

They do have there strengths and costly weaknesses.

Toyota has a great marketing and engineering team. Them passing on it for now does speak volumes. Totally agree with you.

I honestly believe Toyota is just sitting back, counting money and time watching Nissan totally screw themselves with the XD diesel.

Ford has gone a different route with forced injection smaller motors with lightweight aluminum. There is a small diesel in the works and should see it in 18' or early 19'.
The aluminum is an interesting route, and one of the reasons I do not own a 17' F350. It was pretty close...they are sweet. What isn't so sweet from what I have seen first hand is the durability of the bed construction in my friends F150. I can't have that crap in a 1 ton truck. I also checked on insurance. No thanks.

Chevy has some interesting things on the market. For sale in CA only, hybrid 1/2 ton trucks with the 5.3L. Not my "thing", but it is something else. They still have cylinder deactivation which blows donkeys. I wouldn't own a current gas GM motor without the understanding that a rebuild and deleting this system would be in order down the road. That kind of cost, might as well spring for a diesel.

Ram, they have added an 8 speed transmission, and when mated with the 3:91 gears=gun times.
Ram also incorporated cylinder deactivation, and for the same reason as GM, would not own one. Might as well spring for the diesel.

Nissan- one of the first times I have included them in a serious debate. They have upped the game. I do feel the gas XD is pretty good and is a serious challenger for the Toyota Tundra. The XD with the 5.0 diesel...I've said enough about that. Nissan is plagued with electrical issues like no other. I personally know a tech that went from Toyota to Nissan since they paid more money. To his regret, all he does now is wiring troubleshooting.

So tell me people, what truck would you own in the 1/2 ton truck market?

I looked at every half ton on the market and chose the Tundra for the exact same reasons.
Regarding the Nissan, even I hate troubleshooting electrical systems and that is what I do for a living.

I highly doubt Toyota would go for a diesel option. Money being a big issue and there current production is (from what I have read) at near max capacity for pushing out Toyota's Trucks. Nissan took a big risk going for a Diesel considering their sales for their Titan prior to the XD release were not so good. I have read some post, I believe from Toyota, about over the next 5 years or more there will be doing engine refreshes for their vehicle lineups, not sure exactly which ones, but sounds promising.

Don't fix what's not broken, of course there are other things Toyota could do to enhance the tundra but I don't see the powertrain changing that much. Toyota still has a strong fan base for their trucks hence why the factories are at max capacity.

What part? The diesels that suck, trucks that suck, or the forum that sucks?

    I vote all three. Lol

I used to only buy diesels, quite a few. They are expensive to maintain, triple oil change $$$, fuel filters every other oil change $100, then repairs... Diesel fuel is not cheap, and in a 1/2 ton, the engine is not limiting towing/hauling, a diesel may very well lower capacities due to increased weight. Then there is that chance of bad fuel, nothing like getting stung for $10k+ for a new fuel system. It is hard for me to see any advantage to a diesel 1/2 ton, still would be cool, and I'd probably buy one(Tundra) anyhow.

I've been told by buddies at Toyota that deal with development and BIG things are going to happen to the 2019-2020 Tundra platform. Time will tell for sure though.

Ha, lol! Does being a dick imply that I have some in my mouth? I've been living life differently if it does....

And... I cant. I'd probably get fired. So, the plot thickens.

I don't think anyone is expecting to tow 20k lbs with a ½ ton diesel Toyota.
But for those that are in the 5500-7500 range (and for any of us really) it'd be nice to not lose half your mpg's when loaded up.

That's the advantage. If it gets 30mpg hwy (like the ram ecodiesel) and 22-24 mpg hwy with 7000 lbs behind it (like the ram ecodiesel), then who wouldn't want that?
Or hell if it got 20 unloaded and 16 loaded that'd be sweet. Just sucks doing the 16-17 thing and then 8-10 with my boat on the back. Especially when I've only got the 26 gal tank.

Well that just limited some options then. Either forced induction, or diesel Tundra coming.

GM has a CA only Hybrid 1/2 ton truck in testing right meow.
