The only thing I can think of that I've added was one of those OBD2 chip sets that monitor your driving for insurance purposes.
I can't believe that would drag down a car battery.

I have a battery isolator on my Jeep for when I roll it. It’s like changing the battery out, so you lose those settings.

Is it one of those chips that you send back or have to download information from a computer? Or does it do it WiFi?

I also ordered a Diode for fuse block.
Should stop any battery drain to the electronics.

If the Diode works, then I ship back the battery isolate switch to Amazon.

I bet the diode works. Still need to install one on my Jeep for drain, but I have to keep the battery disconnect anyway.

I'm no battery expert, but can't they just measure the battery drain and do some math to determine how long it'll last?

I don't think they're that intelligent at the dealerships.
Whatever tests they did, they came back A OK so I got the paperwork from them.
It happens again I get a new battery.

If you have an amp meter you can measure the draw yourself.
    It is by design.
The only way to "fix it" is buy an older vehicle without electronics that run on battery power all the time.

The fix if I want the electronics active when not driving is to install a monster battery or a 2nd battery if I don't drive it regularly.

    Complain?
I think not. I take all opinions in and process against my environment that I have to deal with.
There are tradeoffs always through life. These recommendations are all feasible but come with tradeoffs.
Doesn't mean there bad by no means.
MGNCHAKAR just said he got 5 + years from his Toyota battery; that's what I expect from a battery also.
Complain? you need to pick your wording a little better maybe next time?

Factory batteries suck ass. I replaced mine in less than two years.
I don’t believe the OB2 is drawing that. Hell, even when I had my scangauge hooked up I had no issues

I have a 2018 SRS upgrade, sits in storage sometimes 6-8 wks. Only has 5800 miles. Never has problem stating w/o tender as no 110 volt where i store. Still has factory battery. My 2017 Jeep Rubicon w/ 800 miles and 2 yrs. old and on tender died . Who knows, Jeep battery replaced ,sat 6 wks. w/o tender, starts right up. I would think just luck of draw on battery a I live in Fl. and heat just cooks our batteries here. 34ford

Noted... I'm just pulling every potential I can.
I do not believe it can cause issues either.

I think CA summer has caused part of your problem and climate difference is part of the reason so many of us experience different results.

    Function before sparkle.
Personal experience: OBD Veepeak bluetooth reader plugged in, 4 month old Northstar AGM battery drained to the point of a no start after two weeks. Happened twice. Only reason I learned this is a had a few spaces of just driving the other vehicle because of Covid.

Reader removed, no issues. Scanguage is considerably more efficient as it isn’t broadcasting.

I haven't read through all the responses, so my apologies if i am repeating an earlier response. If you have an after market remote starter AND you leave your truck for an extended time..it will drain a weak, small capacity or old battery. Same goes for leaving a code reader attached.
I have replaced my factory battery with a Kirkland ~ 800 CCA battery 84 month warranty...with great success. I had previously replaced with a new smaller CCA Kirkland battery ( showed compatible with tundra model)which was dead twice in one year..... Costco replaced at no charge.
Kirkland is made by Interstate Which is part of Johnson Controls.
One important thing to note: Retailers can and do have manufacturers make products to their own specifications, which sometimes are not as good or as reliable as the known brand.....usually as some components and or manufacturing processes are not the same as the manufacturers product..... But this allows the sub retailer to make a claim ( sometimes inaccurately ) that they have a top brand manufacturer making their product...and sometimes a better price point due to the changes, they just fail to mention that it is not the same spec..... So make sure you compare specs.....

Have you tried to unplug it while parked? I’m not sure how they work, but if your phone is out of cell range and constantly looking for a signal it’ll drain the battery. The OBD thing might be doing the same thing.

I'm in agreement with the OP. His battery shouldn't be having problems and why spend any of his own money to try and get around it or rectify it when it should work from the factory without any heroic efforts.

I just came upon this thread as my 2019 1794 is exhibiting battery problems and I recall there's been reports of shitty batteries. I took delivery on this truck almost exactly 2 years ago to the day. The battery should be fine. I haven't hooked anything up to it so everything pull off it is factory shit. Today I started it on 3 separate occasions and it took a few extra ooomphs to get it started. I'll keep an eye on it but my plan if it keeps happening is to take it down to the dealer and start the process for them to replace it. Last thing I want to do is spend a few hundred to a thousand bucks on a friggin battery. They should just work.

There are a lot of things we could talk about that shouldn’t happen. A TRD Pro should have recovery points but come March people will be buying a $70k+ off-road truck without any.

Some people value their time more than a relatively small amount of money. Making 3 trips to hear some service advisor’s BS isn’t all that appealing to most.

This x2 /\ /\ /\ for starters. Secondly, let's talk about sarters too. Starters are simply high torque DC electric motors, they do not like weak batteries. Folks who choose to squeeze by with weak batteries are likely to wind up with premature starter failure. Low voltage, turns to high amps, turns to high heat, turns to damaged starter. The starter is by no means easy to replace either and if diy is not on the table, be prepared to lay dow 1200-1500 bucks due to being a knucklehead. As a bonus, you will also be without your truck too! Maybe you will learn, maybe not.

Does it have a “karr” alarm or some other dealer add on gps recovery system. Check the windows or door seal for stickers and under drivers side footwell for a mess of non factory wires.

OK, I get it. We need to understand that Toyota put some shitty parts in our trucks. OK.

If we are in agreement one of those is the OEM battery, then is Northstar the way to go? If I elect to buy my own battery, and would prefer to not spend $1k but more like $300 to $400, any recommendations? My Wrangler needed a new battery a year ago, I simply went to Walmart but it's my daughter's car and it needed immediate replacement.

Oreilly's ultimate gold, I always buy one of those about every 4-5 yrs for all my vehicles and never had a problem. Yes, I know, parts stores are high on battery prices.
