Did IT Again

Hadn't driven the truck in a week; mind you it's a 2021.
The battery was dead, had to jump it again.
This is the second time in two months, mind you it's summer here.
Both times I let the truck sit for a week.
Cannot find anything that would drain it.

 

Do you have:

1. Dashcam connected to constant power.
2. A bluetooth OBD reader connected in.

 

The remote connect services that allow you to see the truck from the phone app have been notorious for draining the battery.

 

You probably have a defective battery, most factory batteries are garbage.

 

hmm obd reader drains. Mine turns off completely. atleast the light goes off until I turn on the key

 

I have the VeePeek. Now I wonder if my light goes out. I'll have to check.

 

OBD Port has constant power and my VeePeak stays nice and lit after the engine is off. Sucks just enough power that if I leave the truck unused for two weeks it just might be dead. And because the VeePeak will operate all the way down to 9 volts it will suck every little bit of juice it can.

Damn....I will remove mine since I don't use it daily. Now I'm curious as to why a Scan Guage turns off unless it still pulls "background" power.

 

ScanGauge does a really good job of going to sleep. Very, very little draw. But if you a press a button while the engine is off it will wake up.

 

He is taking a principled stand to make the shitty OEM battery work no matter how many times it must be warrantied.

Yes I have an OBD reader installed Actually its a mileage chipset runs of OBD2 plug.

 

I have that and use it. It's a nice app to have.
But really, a friggen week?

Unplug it when you leave the truck for a while.

With COVID I wasn't driving the truck as much for a while (working at home) and my OBD reader drained a brand new Northstar AGM in just over 2 weeks. No other non-OEM drains (I tracked them all down and removed them).

But like others said, you may have a bad battery. Use your warranty.

 

You said that you were going to persuade the dealer to make it right a couple of weeks ago. What happened??

 

I have a meeting with them (service mgr. this Thurs @ 8:45 am).
My first discussion with him was "If it happens again, bring it in".
It happened again.

 

This horse drinks single malt scotch. I'll check the battery they install on this visit.
BTW, I didn't become financially independent at 50 by buying replacement merch that I'm not responsible for.

 

You will soon spend more in gasoline than the cost of the battery. I dunno. Then factor in time. Been there with this shit on my 4Runner. I won, but not easily.

 

30 minute drive to dealer; It will be fixed before I head back, trust me.

 

Happened to my dads 20 T4R. Dealership brought out a flatbed, towed it to the shop, replaced the battery and delivered back to my dads place.

I swapped out my battery to a Northstar on day 1. Gave my brand new factory battery to a friend. My truck can sit for 2 months at a time and still fires right up.

 

As it should, that's why I'm giving Toyota a chance to clean this issue up.
