Was pulling some logs yesterday when I saw smoke coming from my controller wire. Cut power to the truck to inspect and my wire fried, looks like something inside arced is the only way I can explain it. Shut it down for the day as I didn’t have a battery for my wireless function. Next day ( today) I got the batteries for it but it is still unresponsive. Anyone dealt with anything like this before? Winch is a smittybilt x20. I’ll upload pics of the wire here shortly.

    Not many yet, mostly stock.
Maybe it got to hot on the duty cycle. I’m hoping your able to take it apart to see the issue. I’d call Smittybilt too for support.
    Good luck

call the mfg first. You wouldn't want to mess with it if it can be warrantied (even if its out of warranty, sometimes they'll help a brother out).

It was weird because I wasn’t engaging the line at all, literally just standing back assessing before I went to make a put and I saw smoke.

I’ll definitely call them tomorrow morning.

I initially though it was just the power cable but now that the wireless function isn’t working I’m a bit worried and honestly a bit agitated I now have to attempt to despoil my line by hand. Goodbye knuckles.
