Having seen several questions on tire pressure recommendations on different tires other than factory, Here is what I went though, having bought nitto ridge grapplers, tire shop was saying 34 lbs, dealer was using factory settings. after several miles I noticed wear on outside edges, (no off roading) tires were rotated 5,000 miles. had dealer do front end alignment, still was getting wear. tire shop said alignment was ok, still was seeing wear. Went to a frame and alignment specialist shop told me it was ok but they put it more in specs, they thought wear could be from truck being heavy and when going around corners and turning tires might be rolling edges in. made sense. so what i did was the chaulk test on tires. there are many videos on you tube , using chaulk test to find correct tire pressure. very easy to do. did both truck and car. new tires are doing good even wear.

What pressure did you end up with?

Chalk test only works IF your tires aren’t meant to be crowned. More and more tires, especially hybrids, are going to a crowned tread pattern.

The best/easiest way to determine the proper psi to run is simply email your tire manufacturer. Send them a picture of your doorjamb sticker and tell them what tire and size you switched to and they’ll tell you what you should be running.

Michelin has a drop down in their customer service contact specifically for this question.

What tire size are you running? Same size, but different load rating?

Takes a little digging but the manufacturers publish charts based on axle rating. Believe my coopers call for 34 and 36.

I had E rated A/Ts installed at a dealer on the 2015 a while back. Max psi is 80. They filled them to 34, because that's what the door sticker says. All 4 tires looked half deflated because,.....well,......they were!
I tried explaining how tire pressure worked and that I needed my TPS reset and adjusted because I'd be towing and hauling heavy loads for the foreseeable future and running E tires at 65+ psi. They argued with me. So, I left without the TPS reprogrammed and filled them up myself.
Running those tires at 34psi (essentially flat) would have destroyed them and possibly caused a blow out.
The door sticker is for the factory tires, or equivalent replacements. When you switch to a different size and rating tire, you go by the tire rating (on the tire) and the loads you'll be asking of it.
I would say that I'm amazed at the number of techs at shops that have no idea what they're doing or talking about, but it seems to be the norm these days, rather than a rare occurrence.
