GLOBAL CHAOS!

"Chefchaouen is known as the blue pearl due to the homogeneously painted buildings. Some say that the blue symbolizes the life-giving water that surrounds this town, some say it deters mosquitos, but there are also stories that the local government mandated the color change in the 1970s to attract tourists — regardless of why the tradition started, the tourists definitely showed up.

This was our first stop in Morocco four months ago and is our penultimate stop as we loop back up. We wandered the narrow streets of the medina, drank copious amounts of fresh orange juice, disappointed a few rug salesmen, and pspspspsped at an untold number of street cats.

In a couple of days we’ll continue north.
