That's a real bummer. We don't have the option of getting diminished value insurance here in Canada. We have no fault insurance.

200 miles, 4 hours, you probably haven’t even had a chance to fart on the seat. Poor truck.

    Lots of stuff!
When we bought our new VW last month, we got sucked into this addition. For new vehicles, it is good for 7 years. It is throught Lloyd's of Canada. I think we might have got this for the Tundra as well but will have to check.

    ****************
    Diminished Vehicle Value Benefit

Accidents happen, and if at no-fault to you Optiom will pay a fixed amount if repairs exceed more than 25% of the declared value of the vehicle (at the time of the accident). If you are in an accident and are thinking of selling your vehicle, it is now worth significantly less. Optiom will contribute to this gap based on the value of the vehicle at policy inception to recover some of the value that was lost.

With the majority of Canadians keeping their cars an average of five years, there is no replacement coverage during the time in which depreciation acts the most. Your primary insurer will cover you for collision and liability, but Optiom looks at the greater picture by covering loans or leases you may have on your vehicle. Your primary insurer doesn’t provide equity towards a replacement vehicle as well. With personalized vehicle protection and an affordable month-by-month plan with no minimum term obligation, you’ve got nothing to lose and better vehicle coverage to gain!

Has anybody heard of not being able to get diminished value if the vehicle is not paid off?

Very interesting. So, they get to decide how much to contribute. Can't see them being too generous but at least it's something.

Never tried it since we haven't smashed our cars. I think the way it works is if you get the added coverage, you don't get into an accident!

Get a DV expert and file a claim after you get your truck fixed. I always make a point to make sure the other party is as stressed out as possible if they make me waste my time.

Also, when you file a DV claim, you at least have a chance of recouping some damages. If you don't, you have 100% chance of not getting it.

I filed a DV claim a while back on my old tacoma. Took a letter from me threatening to sue the at fault party to get paid out.

That stinks! Too bad it's not even on the bumper or anything you can upgrade.

Sorry to hear this happened man! Unfortunately I can sort of relate to the feeling but with way less damage. I picked my 23 platinum up the day before thanksgiving with maybe 15 miles on it. It was the most expensive thing I've ever purchased other than my 1970's house and took a lot to talk myself into it. I drove 2 blocks down the street and parked outside of my wife's work waiting for her when some hippies just had to stop and talk with other hippies on the sidewalk right next to me with strollers, kids, dogs, etc. I was literally trying to setup the oem dashcam and thought this is uncomfortable I should move. Before I finished the thought they let their stroller roll away off the sidewalk into the front of my brand new truck in under 10 minutes from driving off the lot. As careless people do they just looked and laughed as if no big deal which just set me off. Yeah, I probably overreacted and flipped out. I was more mad about their lack of remorse as if I was the one out of line, but maybe from now on they'll think oh I should put the brake on the stroller. Luckily I just ended up with very minor scuffs on the grill that mostly buffed out and also unfortunately I am used to dealing with careless idiots like that for the past 15 years in my profession.

As with most things (love, death, cherries, etc), the first one always hurts the most. Hope you get it fixed soon and have an easy experience with it.

Get a sticker that says “this truck means nothing to me” and put it by the dent. People will literally give you three spaces everywhere you park:)

Same. But my damage wasn’t as bad as what you are describing. Plus someone backed into my front bumper at church and left. I’ll assume it was an elderly person that didn’t realize.

I talked to a diminished value expert. He rough estimates my claim to be worth 6-8k. That would go along way to forgetting this ever happened.

Something to consider for recouping Diminished value that worked for me. Young kid backed into my 4Runner and damaged rear quarter. I was actually in local shop I use ordering new tires. Captured on CCTV and obtained copy of Police report. Kid was charged for the incident. Had the 4Runner repaired with all OEM parts. Once completed, contacted the Insurance company of the party that hit me. Asked for Diminished value. Compensation. At first, they said no, then stonewalled me, then came in with a ridiculous low offer. At this point, next conversation with a verbal bluff. My lawyer advised me to ask for Diminished value based on same vehicle without an accident noted and one with an accident noted on the VIN. Been awhile, but the difference was around $2500. I provided them the information and reminded them I had the CCTV, police report and this documentation. Received check from them for the Diminished value difference.

Best part of this was when I traded the 4Runner in for my 22 Tundra. Received substantially more then Blue Book on trade-just over what I paid new for it.

    Good Luck

Of course, we all know what the OP should have done... got a 2nd gen in the first place. Everyone knows that those are impervious to dents and such. ;-)

I feel your pain! My neighbor backed into my 4 month old Platinum with around 4k miles on it while I was standing in my driveway. Had to have the front panel and door repaired and it came to around $4,800, covered by his insurance. O got it repaired and moved on. Thought about a diminished value claim, but never followed through with that because it was mostly cosmetic repair and the individual I talked to about placing that claim said it probably wouldn't be worth it. Good Luck!

The pain you feel today will slowly fade once the repair has been made. My repair shop did a beautiful job.

My actual repair cost a little less than the estimate. I think the estimate was around $5,300 if I recall correctly. The initial sting of it hurts, but at least the lady stayed on scene and at least she has insurance. My neighbor felt horrible, but I reassured him that nobody was hurt and that's the most important thing.

File for diminished value and here's why.
If the truck it totaled out in the next two years the insurance will reduce the payout due to prior damage. Also what about your time and inconvenience while it's not a major accident with injuries etc I'm sure you would rather not be dealing with the other driver, bodyshop, and insurance.

no Mods... has new headlights and some dings on the side... just purchased a dent puller and Bilstein 5100's for it..... absolutely love it in the 2 weeks I've owned it...

Hey that stuff happens.... I've seen it mentioned and I would get the check and sort out your own repairs.... order the plastic fender piece and research a good garage to replace it or YouTube it and do it yourself? and as far as the dents... doesn't look like any paint was removed so I would do a reputable PDR individual in your area... I know a guy in Florida that has been doing it for a decade but the snow suggests you're not there! This would be the cheapest avenue and probably the most satisfying... enjoy your new Tundra.
Side note at my work about two weeks ago I found a dent on my 1st Gen Tundra about the size of a baseball.... I know someone did it there! But no one in the shop has fessed up (I drive semi).... at least you seen it happen.... Toyos are such great vehicles... I can feel and reciprocate your despair, it's not a materialistic vantage point but just that you've been planning and working diligently to make it happen monetarily and emotionally. You love the truck... fix it and enjoy it!! Nice color also!!
