I got more for my trade in than I payed for on my 2017 Tacoma. I payed almost $36000 and traded it for $38000

My truck was on my dealer lot within a week of being built.

Do you have the VIN - very easy to lookup if it’s been built or not.

From there - it’s just a matter of logistics. Right now it is not unusual that stuff is taking 4 weeks from build to get to the dealer lot.

Gotta remember - high demand/high production but basically same number of transporters and drivers as there was in 2020. They can only ship so many per day no matter how many they build - and it’s not like there’s not competition for those transporters and drivers.

    Tundra ?

That may actually be the rare bird worth paying over sticker on.

Basically a unicorn truck - to start 90% of Pro’s are CM so your already pretty rare in being a DC, then toss in the “one year only” Lunar and you got a truck of which well less than 500 will be built in all likelihood.

No idea how scarce - but I’d guess that number is closer to the low 100’s…certainly not in the 1000s

Let’s say Toyota sells 100k Tundras a year - half are SR5s - the other half probably break out near even amongst SR/Limited/Platinum/1794 and Pro (or more like Limited—1794-Pro-Platinum-SR)

Anyway - say they make 10k Pros - and 90% are CM, that leaves you 1k total DC Pros and even if LG is half and the other 3 colors the remainder - that’s 500 total units - max.

    The chart says

    April 2021 - 7512
    April 2020- 4900

that’s an INCREASE of roughly 35%

Guessing someone messed up their #s though as 35% sounds right.

My question is does that mean 35% down YOY or April only ?

April only a few reasons could have caused that - weather (wasn’t there a big snow in Texas late March/Early April in Tx that pushed fuel prices sharply higher and played havoc with the electrical grid.

YOY 65% production - possible, after all no one saw this coming and every sign pointed to high build up of demand for 2022s/lagging demand for 2021s based on 2 years of declining sales.

I’d put money on it though they won’t up making more 2021s than 2020s though - even if they are making them will into late December 2021 - instead of breaking and stopping Labor Day weekend.

The only caveat is that you will likely be paying closer to MSRP for whatever you are buying vs what you paid for the Tacoma.

What’s up with the RG tires ? I just met a guy last week out of Opelousas, Louisiana who purchased a LR CM Pro from Courvelle Toyota and his had the same RGers. I asked if it came that way and he said yes. He said he only had 300 miles on the truck. I was like maybe the dealership changed them ? But then I see this DC with same tires. Guess I was expecting the Michelin’s that I’m accustomed to seeing… ???

Thanks! I’m learning that the Taco is rather limited on tire sizes. Can only go one size up before needing a BMC. So many more options with the Tundra

I've been told by my dealer's sales manager the build date for my Army Green 1794 was May 10. It was at the railhead on May 13. It is expected at the port on May 25 and should be at the dealer on or very close to June 1.

I placed an order for a CrewMax Platinum 4x4 a couple weeks ago and 3-4 months is the expected ETA. Mid-August if the stars align but most likely mid/late-Sept. Happy to get the final V8 model year.

Good idea on the lookup, but I don't see an actual build date from what I could find (just the year). I did see this truck was ordered in February and I 'bought' it May 1 with an estimated delivery of May 15-20. It is now an estimated delivery of May 24-26. Waiting on a call from the dealer and would love to have it for the long weekend.

What tool have you used to look up Vin to find the order date and the estimated delivery date? I have a build date of today 5/26 (MGM CM TRD PRO). Thanks in advance.

I have used a couple that come up on a google search, so I am not sure which I should be using. Regardless, it was delivered last night and I am picking up after work. Thanks in advance if you can share what tool you use/recommend... it might help others.

:) Sorry... What I used just gave me either it is a 2021 or that it was ordered 2/21. I never came across anything that gave a build date.

For pending builds - enter the vin from the build sheet given to you by the dealer (it will have a letter in place of one of the last 6 - which are all numerical normally - this signifies it’s not been built yet).

If not built yet - site will show you an order date only (month/year) - once built - that pre build vin will not work - so if no longer working you know it’s been physically assembled.

Delivery date and the estimated you will need to obtain from dealer - the distributor tells them when to expect it on lot and estimated build date. There is no lookup tool for these - just tools to verify once the build is completed using the info shared by dealer.

That right there was the issue... I only had a VIN that showed it had been built. Valuable info you provided here. Thanks!

Went to the dealer today to review and approve revised paperwork from that which I signed in late March when they thought they had a dealer trade for me which ultimately fell through. Added a few more OEM extras since then.

It was confirmed to me today that, as scheduled, the vehicle was 'seen' at the 'port' rail head in Annapolis Junction, Maryland where the bulk of the extras will be installed. The vehicle is scheduled to arrive at the dealer between June 1-7 where the remainder of the build will be completed in their service department before sale to me.

When I pay for the vehicle it will come in at ~$1,200 below MSRP. This is far from the best deal I have ever made on a new vehicle but given the production slow down and resulting tight inventory I think its about as good as I could have done for a '21 Army Green 1794 at this time.

    I've had a Tundra without a gap for the last 13 years. 2008 SR5 DC, 2012 Platinum CM, and very soon a 2021 1794.

So that may not have been the issue… turns out initial paperwork and deposit were for a truck with different VIN that never showed up. Regardless, 2 hours of paperwork later there is a truck in the driveway. Bone stock but super excited to get to work thanks to all the great info here.
