Don't leave the truck parked with the hi-beams on or drive really slow with them on for a long time. With both the highs and lows on some airflow is needed to keep the wiring and connectors from overheating.

I tried that at the dealership I’m waiting for mine to show up at. They care not about the wait, won’t deal any lower. Super lame, apparently the PRO’s r so special u can’t get a lower deal even w the factory recall taking forever . Was told the 22 will have a 20k mark up…

I bought a 4x4 long bed recently. A buyer backed out because it took 4 months for their custom truck due to an extended hold at Port, so I swooped in.
I also have an early october build date.

I am also showing no recalls at this time.

Yes. Looks like build date of Aug-Oct ‘21 are the ones affected (about 22,500 trucks)

    Mine is affected.
    Whomp whomp.

what’s the process to get into this area? Is this going to be a big job or a long wait, ya think?

I drive my truck really hard. 4x4 everyday off road. I can muscle without PS but I don’t want the sudden loss.

Would it leak fluid on my garage?

FWIW, I bought mine at the end of Sept. I assume an Aug/Sept build date.

I had it for two days, and took the wife out to dinner. While parking the truck, we heard a loud bang/pop from the front of the truck. It wasn’t gradual, just all of a sudden no power steering. It was all I could do to get the truck parked, it was that hard to steer. Engine ran fine, but no way I was going to try and drive it that way, not in town.

I won’t get into Toyota “roadside” issues…. but get AAA.

They said it blew out the seals in the rack and the fluid filled the boots. They ended up replacing the whole rack.

249 miles on it at the time.

Wow! Sorry that happened to you but while parking isn’t the worst possible time I guess… Do you know if it was an EZ one day fix or did it take forever to get it completed at the dealer? PS Good looking Cement Trail Edition

I couldn’t find it on the app and not sure what my door says but I have it in my phone when the salesman called me to tell me the truck was mine and he sent me the to be built date and estimated arrival date (my build date was on 8/2/21)

    I'm glad I have a '15.

I never thought I'd see the day when the low quality issues that seem to be almost everywhere would start creeping into Toyota. :(

I also am glad to have a 2015. The only year, I believe, to have zero TSB,s or recalls. It seems evident that the more complex the integrated technology used, the higher the probability of failure.

I did a little reading this morning and found out this: There were four machinces used to cut a circlip groove on the steering racks for around 22k vehicles. One of these four machines had a faulty cutting tool that didn't cut the retaining groove properly. Under certain driving conditions (they didn't specify what) the pressure inside the rack could overcome the circlips ability to hold and a rapid loss of fluid occurs.
I'll try to attach a PDF file.

So, is it one particular side that blows out or have either sides been show to cause the massive leak? My guess Toyota wants to stay politically neutral so both right and left are equally offensive. It's possible the CNC machine that appears to have used a hammer and cold chisel may have done both sides in the same manner.

It’s a vendor issue. They have 4 machines that cut grooves for the circlip. One of the machines had broken teeth on the cutter resulting in failure of the clip staying in place, fluid loss and power steering failure. One in four of the 22,000 Tundras has this issue. They need to be inspected to determine which ones are defective and in need of part replacement. My Tundra was “ordered” in early October and made it up to the rail head in Minnesota, then Toyota America placed a hold on it, and it’s still there. Per NHTSA rules, Toyota America may not transfer possession or ownership until the defect is repaired. So I am one of the folks waiting to take possession of my 2021, into model year 2022.

Mine was held at the Port for about a month then released. I paid sticker but I wanted the V-8. I asked the dealer they said all they know is it was held up for steering column parts. Not sure if the Port inspected it or replaced parts.

No recalls listed for mine yet, maybe it's coming. I am happy with the truck. I was coming from a 2004 that I had bought new and never had a issue.
