Same issue here. I purchased my 2018 Crewmax in July
It had 2 miles. 3 weeks later at 156 miles, the battery needed replacing under warranty. I was kind of surprised.

Just bought my 15’ CM and on the service records the dealer put a new battery in it. 15 miles into owning the truck the battery was drained and it was towed back to the dealer. Dead cell in a 2 week old battery. Haven’t had issues since.

It hard to pinpoint exactly when a battery will go out, I have a 2014 almost 60,000miles on stock battery. Although the last time it was serviced the tech said it’s getting weak.

My 17 Tundra battery crapped out today and had to jump it. The last few days I noticed it was having trouble turning over. What a joke! Truck is 17 months old. What battery do you guys recommend I replace it with?

Mine turned into a piece of wood yesterday. Just over a year old. Dealer swapped out within 30 minutes of arriving. Use your warranty folks, you paid for it.

Not sure who makes these batteries but they suck. I'll throw money at it once I have to pay for one.

Mine died less than a year after buying my truck. Just like you, I couldn't get it to jump. After doing a little research I discovered that apparently the alternator won't see the battery as dead when another battery is hooked up to jump it, thus it won't charge enough to start. The way I got around this was to turn my AC on full blast to draw more juice from the battery so the alternator would see it low and charge. Once I did this, it jumped right away. Took it to the dealer and they promptly replaced it with an 80 month battery.

My battery died when the truck was 13 months old and about 28k miles or so. I also had it towed to Toyota and thought it might have been the alternator because it wouldn't jump start. Anyways, got a new battery installed and back on the road in tundra style.

My truck has 13k and is 11 months old. I'm planning to proactively replace the battery with an AGM from advance auto or costco soon as I already see bits of residue on and around the battery.

What should the voltage be on it? I looked at my compustar DroneMobile and it says 12.7V. I swear it was around 16V last week.

I’ve noticed a lot of battery issues. I work an hour away from home and would not want to deal with battery issues. Would it be wise to just replace now with a better battery and be done?

Typically they fail gradually so you should know. Just visual inspect every oil change for leaks or corrosion and replace when you start noticing stuff

No, these bastards give zero fucks about you. They just shit the bed over night. Like a light switch. I think the failure rate is low though.

High 12s is normal for an idle battery. 14s is normal for a charging battery. In other words engine running. The only way to know how good a battery is is to load test. While starting the voltage should not drop much below 12.

My 8 year old Tundra battery finally failed this year. First Toyota battery I have had to replace. Our cars are usually traded about 7-8 year. I would think they would die sooner in the colder WI climate but evidently it's just the opposite and batteries don't last as long in hotter climates. I nearly killed mine twice in the Tundra leaving an overhead light on. Once was in sub zero weather with the light on for 2 days and it still barely started. The other time I had to jump it and I went snowmobiling (last year) in sub zero weather. That was really tempting fate. This summer the batter failed as I went to start it to take my son and friends fishing.

Bottom line is that I'm really impressed with the long lifespan I've seen from Toyota batteries.

Similar thing happened on my wife's Rav4. I think hers lasted 2 years. Toyota gave us a new one and it only lasted 3 years.

I think the stock batteries are designed to be part of weight savings as they pursue federal guvmunt mleage requirements. They're just shit. Some may luck out. I've got a 2017 that is two years old, 43,000 miles, has spent over half it's life with the A/C running and the stock battery is still performing. So who the hell knows.

One thing I always do is make sure the A/C, heater, fan is in the OFF position before start up. Especially if on A/C. Just keeps the "start" load to a minimum.

And now the dreaded lawyer part: YMMV.

Tacoma batteries died right at 3 years. That is about what I expect out of Tundra. Hot weather is definitely harder on them.

You guys got some good batteries. Bought my brand new Tundra Feb 17' and the battery started having problems at 3 months. Had it replaced under warranty on first service. I told them I would keep a eye on it. At the exact 3 months the new one started having problems. At the next service I told them don't ever bother giving me another POS replacement. They actually said that when they tested it it was OK. If you charge a battery to 100% and it won't start after only sitting for 4 days the there is definitely a problem. I was just part of the NorthStar Battery group buy so hopefully my battery problems will finally be over.

That’s nothing to have any major concerns with. Batteries don’t seem to last, as long as, they used to. I had to replace my battery twice down here in South Florida because of the heat and such. Both times the dealership replaced the batteries and it still died. I ended up buying a Bosch battery aftermarket and it seems to be holding up well. I must add that I have a lot of electrical upgrades on my trucks that pulls a lot of juice, so that doesn’t help either. :)

I am curious if all of the people with short life battery issues are stock or have lots of aftermarket items pulling juice.

Good question. However, my wife’s stock Sequoia Platinum has the same problem with batteries here in South Florida. It’s more so the batteries, than it is the vehicle and it’s add-ons

A guy I work with had to replace his battery because his starter was drawing way to many amps while cranking. It was some ridiculous number like 300 something not 100% but the dealer wouldn't believe him and they blamed it on his HAM radio. The dealer said they never had to replace a starter on such a new truck before, Eventually they put an amprobe on at the dealer and replaced the starter and battery.

Any more problems? This months been cold and I had to jump my 2018 several times. When I brought it in they said it tested good. I had to jump it yesterday. Wondering if I should just get a new battery or wait and see. I haven't charged it at all.

I drive it most days. I might get it tested somewhere other than the dealer.

Starting having to jump my 2018 after about 9 months when it got cold. Got a noco jump starter to keep in the truck. Just replaced it with a dual battery kit and 2 odyssey batteries.
