This guy says to get max performance from this remote tune, you gotta run 91 octane? Also, if this is the case, how does this tune work with the flex fuel 5.7 and running E85?

I’d run 93 with Dap Tune.

Update, 4-17-19: Had truck on highway going to Moab, cruising @ 84. About 4 hour round trip, 15.5 mpg. Truck did awesome. Lots of power. Got her up to 100 briefly in short order. Plenty of passing power. Very pleased.

Just ordered my DAP Tune, should be here in a couple of days. My truck is completely stock, this will be the first after market modification to the truck. Truth be told, my truck is running great as is, lots of low end power, runs and idles smooth, good gas mileage, gets up to 85 without any problems on the highway, just an overall nice ride. I'm hoping the DAP Tune just makes it that much better.

As for my plans for modifications, I'm not planning on doing any suspension/body lift to the truck since it is a working truck, that is, I don't want the bed any higher than it already is. I'm keeping the stock 18" wheels. I will eventually put a cat-back system on the truck, and maybe tweak the stock CAI, but that is about all I plan on doing.

That's about where my truck is currently at (TRD Exhaust and CAI), looking to add DAP tune shortly. Let us know how you like it after the install is complete. Probably another month before I can drop the money for the tune. :(

I have about 4000 miles on my DAP tune, it makes the truck run & operate smoother... I lowered the rear suspension 3", and I'm rolling on 285/60/18 tires. CAI make sense if you are using a supper charger or turbo, but stock intake / filtration is best for everything else.

I've been Dap'd for about 10k miles now (installed tune on 2010, 110k on odometer, level'd on 33" tires). I questioned the cost at $600 dollars for a remote tune on a daily driver. First few thousand miles I'd questioned my decision.

But honestly to me it was worth the cost. To really notice a difference between stock and DAP tune, either from a standstill or on the highway put the pedal to the floor and hold on. The truck doesn't shift out at less than Red Line RPM. And its the equilavent to installing a quick shifter on a Motorcycle. Just shifts, doesn't hesitate and doesn't lag.
I'm not somebody whom races the truck everyday or even weekly, but every once in a while to just give her hell, I'll matt the pedal and hold on. daily driving you do notice the Tune, but more in smooth ness and shifting.
I'm seeing about 15.4 MPG on highway Straight driving around 70 mph and 13.1~13.9 daily driving (to work, highway etc). Its up slightly from before tune but nothing to justify 600 dollars. (also you don't need to run 91 octane, but truck just runs happier that way).

I am running 91 octane on a Non-FFV. With the drop in AFE filter.

I have had the tune for about 2 years now and I absolutely love it. I cannot imagine driving the truck without it. All the performance improvements that have been stated in this thread are accurate. The truck is so much more responsive and faster with the tune (I use 93 octane).

As others have noted, the ECU takes some time to learn the tune. For me, it took about a tank or two of gas. Also, if you ever disconnect your battery, the ECU will have to relearn the tune. I experienced this when I upgraded my stereo system (and disconnected the battery).

We had a group buy here in Austin and Shrek came down to do the installs. Since it was an in-person install, it only cost $420. Even if you are only able to do the remote tune, it is worth the $600. After my experience with the tune, I would pay $600 for it.

So I've had my DAP Tune for about a month now and the truck is running great. Like I said in another post above, the truck already rang strong, and this DAP Tune has just turned it up a notch. I'm running E85 in the truck and have been running E85 for the last 4-5 fill ups. Other than the DAP Tune, I have no after market performance enhancements on the truck.

I got the truck up to 120mph with no problems this morning, very smooth, strong accelleration and I went from about 75mph to 120mph in a very short time. I think someone said that the DAP tune eliminates any governor? The truck was still accelerating at the 120 mark, but I let off the gas and slowed down...

If you run premium unleaded, you will notice even much more performance. And yes, the governor has been removed. I think Dustin said the top speed on the tundra is 135-140.

I'm going to try premium unleaded next. I do like the idea of running E85 because it's cheap, and now that it's summer I like the idea of the engine running a little cooler as E85 burns at a lower temp, or lower BTU's.

it may take a couple of tanks for the fuel type change.

i run my truck in the texas summers and there have been no issues with heat. just fuel it and enjoy :)

The governor has been deleted, otherwise it would have shut you down around 112 mph.

If memory serves, isn't that primarily because the tires on most trucks are only rated to that speed?

    You are correct!

I switched to tires with a speed rating of 'H' after installing my DAP tune.

    Not nearly enough room here!
I'd maybe consider a Dap tune but with a IPT Valve Body/Shift Kit, 10" BA Exhaust and TRD CAI, what improvements could I expect? MPG is at 15.5/16 and truck is NEVER driven in "D":D

"Average power gains have been 15-20HP peak gain, and 20-30 low and midrange power gain. We can remove the governor, change shift points for optimum power, remove torque management..."

Are you in Colorado? I was born and raised in CO and gas used to be pretty reasonable there, not sure about now, I haven't lived in CO for quite some time. Round here gas is very reasonable. $2.30/gal for 87 octane...

Yup, I'm sure it's probably more reasonable in Denver. Of course it's more here by the resorts, and it's 85 octane. Then I pay even a little bit more so I can get 87 octane that's ethanol free, but I don't put on a ton of miles so I rationalize it that way.
