With the big flat painted front of the tundra there’s going to be a LOT more where that little chip came from.

call it a nice patina and move on with a little touch up paint.

I think that part comes raw plastic and then has to be painted. That being the case I would have my current part fixed at a local shop.
Rock chips drive me nuts also. My plan is to touch them up for a while and then paint the front end every so often when I have enough to justify.

You can try, but really hard to prove it was that truck that did it. Real easy to chip it yourself and just look for a dump truck and say it was that one. Heck, might not have even been from the load, easily could have just been kicked up from the road.

I had just bought my truck in Sept. October 15 we were getting bad weather. So we made room in the garage to back it in the side my wife parks her car. I had a shelf on the side of my toolbox in the middle of the back wall. I was watching my wife guide me be so I wouldn’t go through the wall. Needless to say, I caught the corner of the shelf. My wife yelled “You’re scratching your truck”. I looked in the driver mirror and saw the corner of the bed against the shelf. Instead of having my wife lift the shelf off the bed, I put it in drive and moved forward. Not knowing the bottom of the shelf had a sharp edge and ripped a nice four inch scratch in the bed down to the metal. A few choice words and touch up paint and let it go. It’s going to get more but so soon?

I can let some nicks and chips go but no way a 4” scrap is getting let go. I wish things didn’t bother me as much as they do.

Drove my new to me go fast down to Atlanta area to visit a friend for a few days. Wife calls the day before I was to drive home and asked if I wanted to stay a few more days. What she didn't know was I got the email from the dealership for the body shop appt to fix/repaint the tailgate. She finally came clean and said she backed into my trailer and scratched it pretty good. Would have been a few hundred to fix. Told her to cancel the appt, not worry about it and its a truck. Stuff is gonna happen. ( hoping that good karma follows me for when I really step on, it with her)

The touch up tube actually did a good job cleaning it up. Only see it if you know it’s there. There was a day I would have taken it to the body shop that night. I have kept so many vehicles looking like new only to get jack for them when I sell or trade it. So, now I still service it myself and keep them clean but the detailing every day is not happening.

I appreciate all the info, stories and even the hard edge commentary that’s why we are all here. Some to help enlighten or to educate some to smash down. It’s all good no matter the angle. I realize it’s not the “nastiest “ of things to happen and o I know it won’t be the last. I just like to keep my truck proper and clean. It mostly just frustrates me that damn gravel trucks are always skipping rocks my way and this one caught a piece. I got a fj that I wouldn’t care so much if it gets hit. That’s how it goes when the truck is new at least for me.

How do you take the fender panel off? I got the 2 screws out and released the white clip in the inside but there is still a lot of resistance and I can't figure out from where.

I think there's some law of the universe that says nobody can have anything nice without something or someone outside of your control screwing it up. At least it seems that way sometimes.

I think it's written right after the rule which states the first bug to hit a clean windshield will always land dead center in the driver's field of view.

Depends on your state, and where the rock came from. Wyoming is a no fault state for thrown rocks. They expect you to keep your distance. Proving it came out of the back of the truck and wasn't just kicked up by a tire is nigh impossible.

Its a truck. I got ran off the road and took out a dead tree with my bed in march, was upset for a couple days, was going to get it fixed. But I'm gonna save that 2k and enjoy the trails even more now, and if I've gotta hit something, I'll just hit it with that part of the bed :D I may fix it sometime in the future but its not on my list anytime soon. I figure once I fix it. Something else will happen, and then I'll be really upset. 20200228_185545.jpg

that sucks big time. I’ve gotten over any rock chips on my truck it just set me off because the truck was brand new to me. After all that has happened in the last months a chip in my paint ain’t that bad.

I went through this last year traveling down I-95 . I was behind a dump truck pulling a loader. I kept my distance, but was boxed in from traffic. The truck hit a dip in the road and a shit ton of rock hovered in the air till I watched it rain on my truck. Called the company, and sent them pictures of damage. Got nothing . I had multiple cracks in the windshield, chipped paint all over the hood and lower panels. It damaged my headlights, which were retrofitted. Luckily for me I had a $100 deductible and everything was fixed, plus 1k to me for my headlights which I was happily surprised :D
Guess that's why you pay for insurance

That’s rough. Glad you were able to get it handled. It’s frustrating especially in the moment but now looking back it’s not a big deal a little super white touch up and I’m the only one that knows it’s there. Luckily it wasn’t that bad so I didn’t have to get my insurance involved.
