What do you need snap ring pliers for? (Genuine question maybe something I'm missing)

to remove the joint you'll need them to remove the circlip inside the boots to remove the shaft

Yes, but I cleaned and repacked the joint with fresh grease. Didn't just "top her off".

I am happy to report that I've driven 3000 miles since doing this "repair" and the CV joint is definitely no longer leaking. No more grease slinging, and it drives totally fine. This Permatex Ultra Black seems to be great stuff.

I probably should've "refilled" the grease in there with a needle injector beforehand but that's just hindsight talking. CV joint will be inspected and axle or boot will be replaced in the future. I'm moving soon to a location a lot closer to CVJ Axles and may pay them a visit when I can.
