Putting it in the wrong way had the battery light on.

    Thanks.

Would the gm diode just plug into an add a fuse with the stock fuse as well?

No, w/ an add-a-fuse you are left with a pigtail for your new fused accessory, which then behaves as two separate fused accessories. You wouldn’t be able to tie the added fuse into anything using the pigtail, if you get what I’m saying...

That makes sense. I was confused because I’ve been reading threads where people are making their own. Is there any apparent danger to just using the gm diode without a fuse?

I'm glad to have found this thread. On the way to work I stopped off for gas and my truck barely started back up. I ordered a Northstar 31A and a mk4 adjustable.

    I'm torn.
I've been running a northstar 27f for a little over a year now. I mainly got one, because i know the factory batteries are just a ticking timebomb, and i dont want to get stranded anywhere.

Learning about this now has me curious. On one hand, if it aint broke, dont fix it....and on the other, i want this battery to last.....maybe i'll email northstar.

From what I read, you may be fine with the diode fuse. I bought the adjustable one since I pull a camper a lot. The camper batteries take a charge from my truck.

Did you ever email Northstar? If so, what did you find out? I just ordered a Northstar 27F today, so I'm curious...

I didn't, i ended up getting the diode to go in the Alt-s fuse location and it upped my charging voltage a half a volt.

Just pull the trigger now before the stock one leaves you stranded

Very good idea. I pulled my factory battery at about 6mo old (there was a group buy at the time, that may have helped a little) after reading about the factory batteries.
With the noco, youll be good

Awesome info and great thread. I purchased my diode from Mouser Electronics for $11.20 ($3.21 + $7.99 2-day shipping). Slight trim and it fit right into the ALT-S slot. Here are the voltmeter readings:

    Before - 13.88 VDC
    After - 14.34 VDC

I put it in backwards at first and the BATTERY light remained on after start. Switched it around and the battery light turned off. For my 2020 Tundra, the correct orientation of the "arrow" on the diode points forwards.

Looks like HKB has 3 different ones. 5.0A, 7.5A, and a charger.

I installed a GM diode after reading Tacoma and 4Runner forums . It’s much cheaper and is the same thing

Thanks for the quick response. I was looking at that option also and just might go that route for now. For checking the voltage are you just using the multimeter while the engine is idling?
