Yet another interesting thing about the 39s:

With the HP Tuner you can adjust the tire radius and enter your gear ratio so that that the speedometer displays the correct speed. When I had the 37” Yokohama X-MTs I used the radius of a 37” tire and the speedo was spot on with my GPS. Which was a surprise because most tires are typically a 1/2 inch smaller than what they claim it to be. With the 39” KM3 I had to enter the radius of a 38” tire to get the speedo correct. So it makes me think is it really a 38” tire? And if it is then any dreams for an easy upgrade to a proper 40” tire (39.5” actual) just went up in flames :(

The guy that makes/owns HP Tuning says that it will not correct the speedometer. Mines definitely off a little, but maybe something changed. Would use the actual tire diameter from BFG for tuning.

Interesting read. I must be tripping then cuz I test drove it earlier and the speed matched up with my GPS. I better put my glasses on and try again  these old eyes are jacked.

Put my glasses on a looks like you were correct. I changed the tire radius for 37" and the speedo is still 3mph off. I'm feeling better already. Guess I'll use my speed calibrator since it's already installed.

Damn it! I took the passenger side CV axle off and guess what? I thought it broke because the tire no longer spins, even with lockers on, but it appears to be fine :annoyed:

Anyone have an idea why I can only go in 3 wheel drive? ABS sensor and wire are intact and appear fine. I don't hear any clunking or grinding sounds from the diff. Taking it to the shop where I got my diffs done is my last option.

Sorry, can't "like" your post. The only thing I can think of is damage to the diff. Splines on the CV are still good?

I now have a theory of what's wrong with my front diff - I am thinking that my differential clutch sleeve may have broke. The (ADD) actuator is still attached to the clutch sleeve and is able to slide it back and forth making it think that it can go in to 4wd but it's not really connecting the shaft together.
This video of a Tundra drivetrain helped me out a lot in understanding how the front diff works. Now I just need to figure out how to take the diff apart to take a look, fix, and put it back together :sawzall:

This thin sleeve is what keeps the passenger side wheel in gear, so to speak. It's clearly the weakest link on the passenger side.

Funny, I was wondering earlier how you were making out with this issue. So, I started looking at videos of front diffs. Unfortunately didn't get far before I had to go to work. I look forward to watching the one you posted.

Took the front diff actuator off to take a peek at the clutch sleeve and to my dismay it was intact. I was able to slide the sleeve with my finger, engage the shaft, rotate the passenger side axle, and see the shaft and sleeve rotate, which means the problem is now somewhere with the gears. Messing with gears is beyond my comfort level so now I really have to take it to the shop :(

I'm thinking of picking up a front diff at the junk yard and practice taking that one apart.

It looks like the crossmember bracket is contacting with the brake lines - have you had any issues with this? (Did you just bend the lines back to give clearance?)

From that angle they look like they touch but they don’t. It’s really close though so I just pushed the lines in just a little just now.

The front brakes work great! Just the other day I had to stomp on the brakes while going 60mph and the first thing that popped into my head was "holy shit these brakes work good!" I'm very happy with them.

:sadviolin:Monday morning I dropped the truck off at the shop to see what's going on with the front diff. It's already the end of day today and they haven't even started. The waiting around is killing me and might even mess up my road trip next week  This will be the last time I take my front or rear diffs to the shop for repair.
