I make purchases that can fly under the :ballchain: radar  I think she'll notice when I have an extra set of wheels.
I need to bash the wheels more and then I can point to it and say "seeeee I need new wheels!"

I've been telling her lately that everything that costs a bit more... costs a weeeeeeeeeeeee bit less. That way I don't get yelled at.

I think you’ve discovered before, on multiple occasions, that she doesn’t pay attention to your truck. :boink:

    True
But I don't see how she will not notice a set of wheels with tires locked up in the backyard. That'll be one hella of a :crapstorm::argue::frusty::goingcrazy::help:

We’ll you see - these wheels and tires will be more fuel efficient and quieter on the road, but these wheels and tires will be stronger and grippier which is much safer off road. That’s why I need to have both.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

One other thing I've been thinking about is getting 3 more of the same wheels. I currently have 5. Then when :ballchain: asks, I'll do a Jedi mind trick wave of the hand and say "you've seen these before, let them pass." On a semi-serious note though I would only have 3 wheels in the backyard, while the 4th is in the truck as a spare.

Perhaps the “same wheels” could get the OMF treatment and remain the “same wheels”

For the past few months I've peen kinda :boink::ballchain: about getting a dedicated toy truck. The logic I was trying to sell to her was that she could sell her Mazda CX-5 and get an electric car, I would buy an RCSB and swap out, almost, everything from my Crewmax to return it to mostly stock and use the CM as my daily driver/the dogs' transport vehicle/a truck she could drive (sometimes) without having to crawl up into the truck...... she just greenlighted it!!
    :yes::bananadance::dancingbacon::broccoli:

    An RCSB on 40s :drevil:
Don't see it happening anytime soon but my mind is already racing!

There is a facebook group called Solid axle swapped 1st gen tundras and sequoias. There are a few 05,06 double cabs on tons and 40s. Absolutely awesome!

I'm gonna keep it IFS. I like the reliability, drivability, and on road comfort but most of all I like the challenge it poses. When I see a SAS'd truck I expect it to go over big shit. Everybody knows IFS is limited in what it can do so that's where I want to push it :D

I agree just fun to look at the builds. I would keep ifs in your situation too. Those second gen+ ifs have alot more potential than first gens do. For instance in my first gen i have gone through a couple front diffs and steering racks and there is just really not much that can be done about it. Your guys trucks have racks and diffs and just an overall setup that can handle a ton more abuse on bigger tires than 1st gens, which is why more 1st gen guys sas. Ive been hoping for one of the solid axle tundras to go run with the full size invasion crowd in Moab but they haven't yet.

    Uhhhh…

Well built 1st gens don’t break steering racks nearly as often as later gens. When we do, it costs a lot less to replace. We can’t run 40’s and the turning radius for a 1st gen sucks, but the stock clearance is higher, so I’ve been able to get over quite a bit (on 33’s with long travel but no locker yet) that later gens with 35’s haven’t.

I’m not trying to start an argument… and Cruzer’s truck is beast… but I also think it’s good for anyone reading along not to underestimate what a 1st gen can do. Since you brought it up as a liability or a reason you can’t build yours to uber-capable without SAS.

Edit: it’s true, it’s not a good idea to put a locker on a front diff of these… that’s how you blow diffs, break axles. But put one on the back, get your gears right for the tire size, pick lines that take into account the limited turning radius. 1st gens are damn capable in my experience.

I was trying to get onto the Fullsize Invatsion Sand Hollow run but the registration window was so short and quick that I missed it; and I was checking every couple weeks. FSI has a Moab run in the Fall so I'm gonna try and get on that one.

You have to drive carefully with a front locker but it's easy to get carried away at the moment and just send it.....which takes you down my path
It's all about knowing how to drive your vehicle and that takes trial and error, which I've been doing...I know my wrongs so as long as I do the wrongs a bunch of times, then eventually it'll be right....right?

One problem we deal with is that we're kinda stuck with the 7.5" front diff.
