I like the DCs just fine, but the CM has far more utility for me. I haul lots of gear for work that needs to be climate controlled in the cab. Bed is perfect size for our camping gear, all our bikes, an ATV, or a couple of harvested deer. I can fit our whole family of 5 plus a 60lb dog, and everyone has enough space no problem.

I prefer hauling lumber with the rear window all the way down so nothing is hanging out of the bed, but I have put the tailgate down and hauled a load of 12' cedar boards with a red flag on the end for some DIY shutters.

If I had a DC, I would reinforce that giant gap between the front of the bed and the frame. It can be a real problem if you use a bed rack or keep weight in your bed, especially if you venture off pavement often.

Have a Crew Max, was also looking at the Double Cab. Personal preference, but I like two full size doors with symmetrical door handles. I frequently have 3 passengers in the back and they really enjoy the space. I do long road trips (6-8 hours) weekly and I like the ability to have essential items stored in the back seat for easy access, security, and climate control for tools, cooler, cleaning supplies, etc. It keeps the box free for tossing whatever I need in. I haul lumber frequently as well, most times I can get away with resting it on the tailgate and ratcheting it down. However I also own a 5x10 utility trailer if I need more space, which the Tundra tows like butter. I typically put my ATV in the trailer when I haul it because it's much easier to load/unload and tie down. Again it leaves the box open for any other junk I need to haul.

I have seen bed extender hitch attachments, which work great if you want to lay a canoe in the back and have it hang out, or you really want to support a long piece of lumber.
