yaesu ftm-400 finally ordered. hro currently has them discounted $170 until 4/30. i haven't yet decided on antennas, nmo vs rack mount. if i go nmo, depending on if the rack cross bars will cause any interference (need to look into it more), i'll be picking up a comet ssb-1 and a ssb-5. i can switch out the antennas based on the trail i'm driving. short, flexible ssb-1 for trails with lots of trees. ssb-5 for more open areas.

just picked the truck up and had a good chuckle with the service guys. he was explaining the wire harness and what they had to do to fix it then he looked at me and said, 'you should take it back to the shop who did the install and get them to pay for this.'

i laughed and told him that i did the install, so i'll own the mistake.

stopped him dead in his tracks, 'really? everyone here thought all the work was done professionally. you've done an amazing job. all the guys in the back kept wandering over for a look.'

i'll take that compliment. thank you very much.

now, bec on the other hand. she is never going to let this one go. ever.

i spent a significant portion of this afternoon chatting with ben up at filthy motorsports. what a fantastic guy. even though he said they probably didn't need it, the 2.5s are getting a rebuild. more for peace of mind than anything else when i post them for sale here. he took the time to look the truck over, explain a few things, made some suggestions and educated me more in an hour than what i've learned in the past year. i wish i had met him a year and a half ago when i started building this thing.

How are you liking your decked system setup? Been wanted to put one in the bed but not sure if I can cough up the cash for it...do you think its a good use or waste of space? Cheers

definitely a good use of space. one drawer is tools and recovery gear. the other is for misc items: camera gear, camp blankets, dry goods. i'm not sure how i'd organize the truck without it. the esp options are nice but no where near the same amount of available space.

I guess I have my answer. Might get a beatin for spending more on the truck though lol. Would you trust camera gear/electronic to be dry in the drawer if you didn't have a topper on?

yes, the drawers stay dry. i added a couple of the decked boxes as well. they’re sealed with an o-ring.

threw on the @Victory4x4 molle panels this morning. nice addition. although, i’ll be switching the mounting hardware. bolts, nuts and washers would be a little more secure and distibute the weight on the plastic a little more.

matt at off grid engineering, https://www.**************/, is someone you should get to know. super smart and quick to respond. beyond willing to answer any question i had even when it didn’t relate to the products he sells.

his pre wired deck panel normally comes with a 12v socket and a USB one. i don’t need USB in the back of the truck so, he swapped it for another 12v.

now, i just have to wait for the hi-temp wire loom to arrive and then i can get to having fun with crimpers and solder.
