So, changing out the speakers and amp improved the quality of the sound? I read somewhere else that the head unit was the culprit of the shit sound.

It's all around bad. Replacing either is just "better" than bad. I'm doing only the HU next week and will give my detailed impressions of what replacing only that component gets you.

Pretty ridiculous that you spend 50k on a truck and the Bose system in my old 99 Denali sounded way better.

A kept mine and gutted everything else, you can get decent sound out of it but it does have limited adjustments for tuning. For the effort you may as well replace the system IMO.

Yeh, bought a TRD Pro, 55k. Wife's 2015 4Runner, JBL system, absolutely blows the Tundra away. It's actually pretty respectable IMO.

I'm sure it would be even better if I replaced the head unit but I wanted the inside to look untouched and for a nice head unit is @ $1,000. When You look at the inside you wouldn't even know anything was done. Replacing the speakers and amps will get you your biggest improvement. You can keep your stock head unit and functions by running the Rockford dsr1 with aftermarket amp. All plug and play, no cutting wires.

Unfortunately DSR1 units are rare right now. I decided "F" it, I'm not a gear head so this will be the money I sink into this beast. LOL. DMX1037s will be here tomorrow. :D

Yup. Maestro, all the cables, etc. Speakers and subs will be a few months down the road.

Diamondback bed cover. Running boards. Kenwood amp with 4 memphis audio speakers in the doors!
Put a kenwood amp under the seat and Memphis speakers in the doors and now it is pretty good.
