My dealer has a double cab in stock but no crewmax. Double cab seems pretty roomy in the back but just wondering if there is a big difference with the crewmax. I have two teenage boys and want something that's going to be comfortable long-term. Is it worth the extra money for the crewmax?

    Thanks for the input!

I compared them both before I bought mine. There’s a ton more room in the crewmax

Yes, there is a very big difference. But if the DC is enough for you, go for it.

I have a double cab (older body) so its bigger than the new model. I would never buy another small cab. I bought it before i met my wife. If i had known i would have a family it would have been crewmax all the way. Wait imo

I can speak to the 2/2.5 generation and say I’d be quite happy with a DC.

I own a CM and there’s plenty of room - more than most SUVs are going to give you.

A couple of teenage boys - leg room would be nice BUT thinking short term for a long term purchase. How long until they are on their own driving everywhere and does their comfort outweigh the additional cost of a CM? Hell - most teenage kids don’t value stuff like legroom - they are you and can easily squeeze in. Now if we were talking a couple of middle aged male passengers - the extra space might be appreciated- but kids - they adapt much easier.

This. My boys are of the age where they don't ride in the truck much anymore, if at all really. With that, while a Crew Cab would been nice, we just take my wife's Mazda on longer trips, and even that is only about 1-2 times a year with all the kids. When you get to that point, it becomes all about preference/practicality. Does it warrant the bigger cab? Bigger bed? Both? Try to find both, sit in both, and go from there as to what will best work for you.

Great points! I was thinking about the double cab even though we go camping with the kids at least half a dozen times every summer since the oldest ones are 17 and 16 so they'll be out of the house soon. Ended up deciding on the crewmax though because the youngest is only 5 and we wanted the extra room in case we wanted to invite some of his friends with us for the trips. If we don't need the seat space it just means more dry storage for extra gear.

Difference is like comparing a one car garage to a two car garage.

Crewmax if only for the power rear window! I love that feature!

The first gen DC had it right. Perfect size cab, 6.5' bed, roll down back window, not too big, not too small, balanced.

Unforunately they made the new DC juuuuuust small enough to want a bigger than you need crew cab and miss out on a bed.

It's going to come down to you sitting in both back to back and figuring out if it's good for your needs.

The DC is fine. I do wish it was a hair bigger, but it's not bad. If the Crew Cab was a hair smaller and came with a long bed I'd have considered one.

    Good luck!

The one thing I don’t like about the Crewmax is the shorter bed compared to a DC. My buddy has a DC and it is amazing how much difference there is when we are both hauling the same kinda thing. May not be an issue depending on how you plan to use it.

The dc for the 6.5 bed but if your hauling 5 people often you should get the crewmax for sure.

Not sure about 2022 dimensions but 2016 DC has lots of room. I've had tall people back there and they never complained. I see tall kids in our neighborhood in little Mazda or Honda Civic and there is more room in DC Tundra than that or they'll get used to it :D
DC has a nice size bed. Go for it.

Crewmax with 6.5ft is perfect for me, but dealer didn't have any allocated with options I wanted and I didn't want to wait any longer.

Get a Crewmax with the 6.5 ft bed. You’ll have the best of both worlds and won’t regret it.

Besides being so rare to find in my area it just makes to long of a truck. The dc with 6.5’ is as long of a truck as I would want. for my use the crew max would be wasted space where I would rather have that space in the bed. DC has plenty of room to sit in the back despite what all the crewmax guys like to believe.

I tests drove a Crewmax and got to see a Double Cab yesterday and the sales person and I both commented on how there is little leg room for the rear passenger in the DC. If you don't have kids or much stuff to put in the back seat I suppose it wouldn't matter but with two kids, two dogs, and like to take road trips, the Crewmax is the definite for me.

The DC clearly has much less leg room than the Crewmax. I have a Crewmax and have people in the back quite often. A coworker has a DC and has people in the back often. They are already lamenting not buying a Crewmax. I’ve sat in both and at 6’3”, wouldn’t want to be stuffed into the back of the DC for much more than a drive around town. Just my 2 cents.

Yes we can all agree there is less room. For me and anyone I have had back there there’s plenty of room for comfort. None of those people were really fat though. That might change things. I just don’t get why people say it’s to small for adults but to each their own. I could ride back there all day and be fine. Again not a a fat or giant. Just average

Is the new sr5 shorter? Where did the extra space go? Maybe the glove compartment has more space. Lol

DC has more payload and longer bed unless you go for the stretch CC. DC is better for work and worse for rear seat comfort. It really comes down to whether you want to haul and tow stuff or haul people. Nobody has mentioned payload tho and I know most don't care.

But you can get the crew max with a 6.5 bed heck just have them sit in the bed. Problem solved

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
All of my past Tundras were double cab for me but the 2022 model year was really reduced! I’m 6’ tall so my seat has to go back pretty far to the point of sandwiching the persons legs behind me. My boys now are 7 & 11 and I didn’t feel comfortable with there legs crammed behind my back.
Plus when I pick them up from school we usually put the backpacks on the floor which is a no go for this years model.

I guess if your teens are skinny and your shorter than 6’ tall it might work out for you.

    Much agreed…

I have had many people in the rear of my DC Tundra, even some overweight ones, and they have all pretty much said how comfortable it is. A close friend of mine have ridden in the rear of my Tundra and 5th gen 4Runner for long trips. He basically said the Tundra is deceiving because it “looks” uncomfortable but after riding in both he prefers the Tundra.

I can understand if the person is 6 foot tall or 300 pounds plus but other than that give me the bed space all day everyday…. Lots of DC hate for unknown reasons.

I heard the new DC’s are smaller which would make me consider the crewcab. Any smaller than the 2.5 gen would at that point not work for me.
