@des2mtn happy to report that all things went as well as you could expect when replacing the alternator without removing the radiator hoses. Everything lined up via eye ball from old to new. The pulleys were all in line with one another. Hardest part for me was removing the old oval plug from the alternator.

Anyways, @shifty` your alternator worked for me! Battery reads 12.8VDC with the truck off, and 14.1VDC with the truck idling after warm up. Let me know what I owe you. Thanks again!

    No more flickering cab lights!

Really kinda sucked getting the serp belt back on by myself with everything in the way, but I'm glad that it's replaced, and I don't have to worry about it anymore.

I wish I could take pictures, but alas, my phone...

@daveeasa thanks for sending me that plug! I was nervous about it because I couldn't find my pin tools, but in the process of removing the old oval connector from the alternator it started breaking... so I was committed at that point. Thanks!

The big three wiring "diagram" was correct for my truck.

    Current mileage, 290,781.

Also fluid filmed some of the truck

On the house. Merry Christmas. :santa:

Glad to hear things are working! Hopefully the plastic cover wasn't too banged up to be useful, or your old alt cover fit.

I thought about swapping them, but decided not to. Left the cracked cover on. Did fine for my quick 12 mile round trip!

    Thanks again!

Well, after one successful install to the beginnings of another project... thanks to this thread, Rear view mirror. Reawakening my hunt for an auto dimming rear view mirror.

I would absolutely love a basic rear view like this one from a GM, the reason I'd like one like this is because Papaws truck had a mirror just like this. @shifty` you're a past GM aficionado, ever hear of any failures on these?

2003-2009 Chevy Silverado Rear View Mirror Compass Temp Auto Dim.

I also saw some from a Newer Tacoma with blue back lights. That would go great with my interior lighting scheme I'm planning for Crackie.

Here's the Flea-bay listing, Gentex Mirror w/Homelink® BLUE Compass BLUE Backlit Buttons For 2016-2023 Tacoma. I have no need for homelink right now, but that might change in the future...

Anyways, Crackie has a Weirdo mount... here's pictures of the windshield mount, and then the rear view mount.

@abcinv posted this in the thread I linked above. I might be able to make something like this work, but currently, I'm just not seeing it.

I have an email out to Master Tailgaters with your pics in hopes they can advise. I've used them in the past and they were easy to work with.
This is all I found on their website ($10 cheaper on big gurl if it works) -

Thanks Tommy! I appreciate you reaching out! That adapter kit certainly looks interesting. @empty_lord thinks my mount is funky, and it is... https://www.tundras.com/threads/rear-view-mirror.115988/page-2#post-2987059

Also, in my interior brain ramblings, I looked at crutchfield, considering upgrading to a touchscreen with back up cam, and potential, to add front camera later...

Looking at this boss... anyone with stereo experience know if boss is worth a shit? Most of the reviews were positive, but looking for opinions from the audio gurus here. Pic is linky

Boss amps have been good to me but I'm not sure I'd buy their radios. I like the Sony line of touch screen radios. The XAV-AX200 is what I have in my Lexus and the XAV-AX100 is what is in the tundra. Shitty thing is they don't make either one of those anymore. I got it because it has an actual volume knob but most all of the new Sony ones don't anymore. (I see the boss one does though). My truck radio came from marketplace and I bought the one in my Lexus new 3 or 4 years ago.
Beware of the AVX-AX1000 as it doesn't support android auto only apple CarPlay or I would have bought that.

Having a backup camera is fantastic on a truck especially with a cap. I can hook up trailers by myself with 0 effort.

This is why I asked here first!
This is why I selected the boss as it had dual camera inputs. Probably gonna follow in @empty_lord's footsteps, and do a front camera too.

On the head unit front, I love Sony, Alpine, Pioneer, and used the hell out of Blaupunkt and Clarion bitd. If you're on a budget, Kenwood/JVC (same company now, selling same products w/different faceplate/UI) is almost always a solid choice. Dual used to make decent stuff older vehicles where you didn't want to cut the dash, but I'm not up-to-date on their current offerings (same w/Blaupunkt and Clarion), they may've sold their brand overseas, it happens.

I won't buy Jensen, Boss, Atoto, Sanyo, Pyle, and/or any of the cheap generic shit you find on scAmazon. In general, I avoid Android head units (and TVs) like the plague, not because of Android itself, but because of annoying UI/functionality quirks (and sometimes bugs), lack long-term support, hackability, etc. that go along with Android-based devices. This is a byproduct of where the manufacturing is happening more than anything. My employer is heavily vested in the embedded device world, and in cybersecurity, I could show you some shit.

From a practicality perspective, with Android heads, you basically get no long-term support, and I have zero confidence in the firmware - much of which is developed out of China and India in the cheapest way possible, with constantly rotating staff, cobbled together with found-code, you never know if a nation-state actor had their hands in it and what backdoors are installed, thus never know what else you may be getting with it. The update process can be a PITA, you have to visit some sketch websites to get update files in many cases (esp. units sold on scAmazon).

Usually with non-Android head units (and TVs), you get a solid, functional, production-ready head unit that never needs an update in the first place. You typically won't need support, it just works. But paying the slight upcharge premium for the better unit, it's there if you need it, I've gotten support from Alpine and Pioneer years after purchase, and I've never needed it on anything Sony I've purchased for car audio, and only once for home audio. YGWYPF.

Kenwood is just a no-brainer bang vs. buck solution. But their prices have creeped up some over the last decade, putting them in the ballpark with other big names.

I'd almost forgotten about Eclipse! I remember the red swoosh on the logo. Wanna know something cool? It's owned by Denso, you may know their other brand name, Fujitsu, which made the "premium" non-JBL stuff in our 1GTs. My OEM amp was Fujitsu, at least. Apparently they still make products, for OEM, mostly NAV/speakers.

    Nobody doing rearview smart-mirrors?
I bought one for the RV, haven't installed it yet though.
I liked being able to "move" the view & with long vehicles & if you're hauling stuff, having your mirror's 'eye' locatable just seems better.
Takes all that busy stuff off the dashboard. Let's us old folks keep running our cassette tapes & CD's. :yay:

Eventually, I'll be redoing my 4-flat connector with a new harness from scamazon.
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Unless someone has an OEM laying around that I can just buy off them???

Anyways, I want to repin it to something like this as seen below. Some kind of 4 flat that has its own external jacket, and dust cover.

Note to future you - maybe hit those pins up with some dielectric before you cap them trapping in moisture.

Oh, I agree completely. The 4 flat on crackie was missing the ground pin completely. The day I bought the camper I spliced in a temporary 4 flat from TSC 5 minutes away from where I bought the camper.

Looking for a permanent solution now, but yes, I agree. Thats a great way to keep corrosion away.

With two of my tires leaking with real slow leaks, and my constant annoyance with it when I do need crackie... Who has 17's on their truck? What y'all got? Or rather what have you had that wasn't worth half a fuck?

I need some help clarifying some things about tires that I've never thought about before, mainly load range... I understand that a higher ply rating is a "tougher/stronger" tire, and can carry more weight, yes?

So, I've heard of load ranges, and I think I understand them mostly correctly, but what I don't understand, and can't wrap my head around is "Load Index." Maybe I've got analysis paralysis. I don't know for sure. All I know is that I'm gonna need tires on ol' crackie sooner rather than later, and I'd love to throw on those 4runner wheels I bought from @Cummins3500
