Cougar Buttes / Johnson Valley 12/27 - 12/29

I doubt my 3" lift and 295/75 tires and stock bumper should try this....

 

So I know this thread is titled Cougar Buttes but after researching where all of the other trails are it makes more sense to be centrally located. @des2mtn do you mind picking out a spot for basecamp? I believe you know this area than most of us

Mid-level trails to do:
In Johnson Valley: Start southern entrance to Fielder's Choice, then to western entrance Lower Johnson, then go around to get to the northern entrance of Fissure Mountain trail.

Rattlesnake Canyon Trail up to Big Bear

 

Ok so what is the plan... I am going to try to get in a sunday night to tuesday morning. Have a doctor's appointment Tuesday afternoon. May also bring along my BIL

I should be there early Monday morning. I believe @Sunnier and @des2mtn will be there Sunday evening. Those that go Sunday will get to pick out where we base camp and share a pin.

Those that are nearby or know where to get firewood, please bring a ton I’ll go on a firewood run as well when stores open up.

 

Sounds like a plan, I or someone else can pick a base camp somewhere in the area you boxed on the map.

As per wood, I'll bring some for sure! We're going to need it...

 

Hey a buddy of mine that frequents Johnson Valley checked in to say it’s supposed to rain several days between now and then, and likely to be really muddy. I was thinking, ‘sand doesn’t make mud’ , but I’m not very familiar with that area. Anyone chime in about this….

 

Bad news folks. Found out my barber exposed me to covid yesterday. He tested positive today and notified me. I’m gonna have to back out of this trip. This sucks balls!

I’m out too. My work buddy that was going to cover me Tuesday tested positive and can’t come back til after the holidays. I have to stay in county.
