If you’re worried about flying commercial because of the pandemic, Costco might be able to help you out -- you’ll just need $17,500.

The wholesale retailer sells a one-year membership to a private jet charter company called Wheels Up, which allows members to book a private jet “as easily as a ride share or short-term vacation rental,” the product description says.

Although the $17,499.99 membership is quite a hefty fee, it also comes with a $3,500 Costco Shop Card and $4,000 worth of flight credit.

Other benefits include “dedicated account management,” a one-year membership with Inspirato, a luxury vacation rental subscription service and “guaranteed nationwide aircraft availability up to 365 days a year,” according to the description.

Members can either buy an additional “Fund Program” with lower rates and lower billable fly times, or they can “pay as they fly,” according to the product description.

The Wheels Up fleet includes more than 300 private aircraft as well as more than 1,250 partner aircraft.

The company also promises enhanced health and safety measures through its “Safe Passage” program, which includes having all Wheels Up aircraft getting an anti-microbial shield treatment at least every 90 days and having all seats and interior surfaces sanitized between every flight, the website says.

The Wheels Up membership can be found online in the “Electronics” category, or in-store with other gift cards, according to The Washington Post.

It looks like it allows you to book but there's still a cost for the flight. Am I reading that right?

Yeah. That $17K is just the annual membership. You still pay an upfront cost per flight

This is as much of a rip off as their regular membership. I'm not paying anyone for the right to buy stuff from them.

Living in the area around Jackson Hole, WY 17K is chump change. The amount of money around here is staggering. Private Jet fuel consumption at the Jackson Airport is up 50% from 2019, no surprise there.

Wonder if this falls under the Costco return policy? I know a guy who returned a 2 yr gym membership there after 18mo because he wasn’t happy with the product :benchpress:

^This! A few years back I had a chance to fly on a private jet for work. Had to fly to Ottawa Canada. On the return flight we landed in Rochester, NY to “go through customs.” We landed pulled up to the hanger where a Border patrol Agent came on the plane (there was 8 of us), did the usual “are you all US citizens” thing, and then cleared us. We took back off and went home. Time on the ground was like 10-15 min.

Ouch. It says 365 day access to flights within 24 hours notice. I guess if you fly a lot and the cost of a private jet is in your budget, maybe this is a good deal for some people. But not this guy :rofl:I've never even been on a plane

I was wondering to get my fiance for christmas. In all reality, its not a bad deal for someone who flies privately but doesnt own their own plane. The cost of maintenance is easily 17k per year. With the $4k flight credit, its not a horrible deal. Definitely for the rich only though and Im not sure how many of them are shopping at Costco.

I flew private for business for 10 years. Impossible to covey in words how totally phvcking awesome it is. Permitted to 43,500 feet (7,000' above commercial air space in the thin fast air).

    Oh. Citation XLS.

DAMN!!! the closest I got to a private jet was a C2-Greyhound, cat shot off the U.S.S. Nimitz... Nothing like looking rearward with no windows, while hydraulic fluid continuously leaked from the overhead and being stumpy enough to place both my feet on the rear or forward?? back rest of the passenger seat, because I couldn't reach the steel beam below while fully seated rearward, or is it forward?? lol.....

With their executive membership rebate and Citi Costco credit card, I always make enough to more than pay for the membership each year, then save a ton of money on groceries and other benefits. If you're just shopping for yourself then it probably isn't worth it, but it absolutely makes sense for anyone shopping for a family.

I offset the cost of my membership by trading goods with the indigenous people I meet in small central and southern American countries. They always have bags and bags of locally sourced goods they want me to take back to the U.S.

Sure it can be a scary ride at 100 feet AGL while having fighter aircraft chasing you, but it’s way better than working for Wayfair and having to move those heavy pieces of furniture that make noise.

Not worried about the plane crashing at all?

I was kinda young (and impressionable)
when Payne Stewart’s plane crashed. Remember thinking to myself “I just saw that dude a few days ago at the golf tournament”. Followed up by a comment from my mom saying “small planes kill” made me not want to get on one.

Recently just learned of the aloha airline plane that had its roof ripped off

I think I’ll just ultralight it everywhere instead of sitting in a cattle car

In all seriousness, tho I don’t mind flying
