That's awesome!! Keeping the culture alive over there!!

I'm finally moving back in 6 months! Doc and I are finally gonna settle down and start putting down roots after 9 years of moving all over! (South Florida, Baltimore and here in Memphis)

We've thought about it but the wife's job requires a centralized area with a major airport with direct flights. So here we are.

Yeah, gotta do what you gotta do man! At least you aren't that far away!

Nawlins airport isn't exactly a big stopover for any flights unless they're going directly there! Houston is another story!

Ran into a buddy of mine when I was coming in to Baltimore after a trip. Told me he was there on a stopover from New Orleans to Miami!

Told him to fire his travel agent!

I keep Amber on tap year round. Occasionally, I'll throw in an Andygator, I get the strawberry in bottles here, so I make my own Strawgator.

It was a good Mardi Gras, I had lots of room on my couch and no crowds to fight with and best of all....I had a bathroom readily available. Because as a song from a local band says..."Ain't no place to pee on Mardi Gras Day !"

OK NOLA folks. This year my finance manager and travel agent said we are going to NOLA. We have a balcony room in the Four Points on the corner of Bourbon and Toulouse. It's the fourth time I've been, but the last time was before Katrina, so it's been a while. It's also the only place that I've ever been to for business and then returned for pleasure. We're going from 17-21 April. Some friends are going with us that have never been. We're going to do a cemetery tour, the one where Marie Laveau is, and of course strolling, listening for music coming from places and going inside for beers and songs, on infinite repeat. Two questions:

Are there any festivals at that time that would be worth checking out?
We'd like to do a bayou tour, preferably kayak, but boat would be OK. Any decent tours for tourists that locals would recommend?

Well, you are splitting my 2 of my favorites. The weekend before is the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival (bit of a drive but worth it) and the weekend after is Jazz fest.

Dammit. We have a strawberry festival here, they call it the world's best, but the best strawberries I've ever had were in Japan, go figure. It's a pretty big world. The jazz fest would be great. What are the dates? Are there any pre fest activities?

    Strawberry Festival is April 13-15
    Jazz fest starts April 27.

Even though you'll miss those, you'll actually be able to enjoy the city a bit easier as it won't be so crowded. I'm sure yall will have plenty to do. If you are a history nerd the WW2 museum is pretty cool. I can't really help you on the bayou tours. Abita beer has pretty cool and newly renovated brewery that you might enjoy. Hot fresh beignets in the quarter is a must for me. That's just a couple things i like, im sure others will chime in and give recommendations.

I had read that Abita moved to Milwaukee. So they have reopened there? I really like the purple haze and the amber. You sparked another question. Is Dixie still there? Can't get enough of the Blackened Voodoo or the Amber Voodoo.
I'm a minor history buff, mostly about local history where ever I am. The WWII museum sounds great, especially since my dad participated and he wouldn't talk about it too much, don't blame him as far as I can tell. I've gone to every WWII museum any place I've traveled. There's some really different perspectives out there.
Is there anything similar related to the war of 1812?
And, to let the good times roll, off the wall food and drink?

    Yeah I know. :smack:
When I took Spanish in high school, my teacher said I understood it just fine, but spoke with a Chesapeaken accent. Continues on today. But I still understand the meaning

Abita is still in Louisiana! See attached photo. Also, I know fried chicken is basic but you need to check out this place. www.williemaesnola.com In addition to that Dragos has some pretty good chargrilled oysters. Lots of places have Po-Boys, but I'm partial to a place where we used to get them when I was little from Schnell's. Unsure about the 1812 stuff, but that museum is in Shreveport. Dixie beer just reopened last year, not sure if they are doing tours or not. Make sure to grab a muffaletta, from Napolean House or Huck Finns.

If you are looking for places with Jambalaya or gumbo, I honestly don't have 1. I was spoiled and had my grandmas, mom, and a lot of Aunts who can out do anything you will find in a restuarant. Therefore I refuse to eat it, simply due to the fact that I know it won' be up to my standards.Screenshot_20180217-052242.jpg
