Cooling System Upgrade/Fix

    Don't replace the OEM transmission cooler. It's a much higher quality heat exchanger than most of the aftermarket units available. (Much more durable and efficient at removing heat.)

    Just add the B&M cooler after the OEM cooler if you want more cooling capacity. That's what I did with the B&M 70264. 20170706_135451.jpg

    I suppose another option while this other work is being done would be to get in there and install some Heat Shield Products heat shielding on sources of under hood heat. The catalytic converters are pretty close to the transmission for example and could be further shielded to reduce radiant heat.

    The vast majority of the transmission fluid heat comes from inside the transmission. I really don't think adding more exhaust heat shielding will make any measurable difference on transmission fluid temps.

    It may, however, make it easier to keep your cab cool in the summer.

    Depends on how close they are to the transmission, I’m not familiar with the location of the cats on a 2006.

    The cats should already have a heat shield.

    Time to resurrect this thread. @Brendanimals did you ever figure out if it was the fan clutch or the radiator? Or did you just do both?

    I remember looking for one 2 years ago. But the bad ratings put me off of any I could find. Seemed like no one made a OEM quality one.

    Sorry for the long delay, it's been quite the busy month. I got the truck into a shop to get my timing belt and water pump swapped out since I'm at 218k miles and don't know when it was done last. Turns out it was right on time and needed to be replaced, so now I'm good to go there. While it was in there, they had to pull the radiator out to service the belt/pump and noticed the radiator was absolutely caked full of bugs, fur, leaves, etc. and had a small leak where even more dirt accumulated. I told them while its out to go ahead and replace it (no sense in doing it myself at that point) so I'm going to be fixed up with a new rad. I asked them to check out the fan clutch as well since I was suspicious of it and apparently it is operating just fine. I imagine due to the small leak the radiator was corroded outside and in, so hopefully I'm back on track to having my truck in its best shape.
