The cool kids running boards. Protect your truck and you can step on them. I'll get you a pic

The top one is a step/rock slider hybrid (they all are) and next a SDHQ slider(s) installed.

Enough room for a sugar packet or two :D Don’t blame you on a brand new truck.

I want a back rack to be able to put long 16’ boards and trim over the top. Any good recommendations which leave the rear window access clear?

No idea, sorry. I'm in Gen 1 world. But, almost everything cool I learned, was on this forum. And the Gen 2.5 guys have all kinds of cool stuff.

I’ve seen a few members here with a TracRac. Try here for starters: https://www.thule.com/en-us/roof-rack/truck-and-van-racks

Congrats on the truck. It sounds like you plan to use your truck for hunting/camping from previous post and the picture of your little one....get you some decent seat covers! I went with Marathon’s within a month of purchasing my Tundra new in 2016 and they’ve held up really well and I’ve been very pleased with the protection they’ve provided during hunting/camping trips as well as all the food and drink messes the little ones leave from their kid seats. On some days, you’d think a middle school lunch hour in a cafeteria had a food fight in the backseat after a long road trip.

Congrats on the Tundra. I think you’ll be really pleased with the truck for years to come. Your targeted mpg on road trips should be pretty doable. Might be 14-15, but shouldn’t be anywhere near 12 mpg as long as you leave your suspension and tires stock.

Thanks they’re cool but I’m not a cool kid anymore unfortunately. Need a simple step for the wife, my son/friends kids and dad to get into easily.

I’ve got a set of TracRacs on my truck, they’re awesome - rated for 800 lbs. Easy to install and adjustable. I have them on my F250 but I might actually be parting with them so let me know if you’re interested.

First order of business was running boards, just ordered some IONIC 41 bright boards. I wanted a solid step. They don’t look like they drop down too far for the little bit of off roading I do on our hunting land trails.

Quick update on gas mileage. Drove it from DC area to reynoldsville pa. 15.4 avg on way up and halfway home doing 70-80. 17 for the last 80 miles doing 65 mostly downhill/flat.

Not bad! What axle ratio do you have? I know all the TRD Off road packages are a 4.30 rear end, but I’m not sure if the other ones are.

It is the 4.30 axle. I only had some hunting gear with so was pretty light, nice and cool out. I expect it will get worse lol. Also, 4L going up icy hills was a breeze!

    1998 - 2021 = Covincing you will be simple.
2022 = Not so much. Used to be never buy the first model year. This laundry list grows daily so probably wait a few. Also, pray in a couple of years they adopt the Sequoia front end and lose the sinaloa cartel horrible mustache.

I owned a first gen Tundra and put 75k miles with zero issues (work truck). I owned a 2007 that I drove for 10 years 150k miles with zero issues. I now have a 2018 with 41k miles and no issues.
I have also owned a Tacoma I put 75k miles on and an Avalon we put 150k miles on with no issues. We now have a Highlander that now has 120k and no issues. That is a total of over 600k miles with no mechanical failures over the past 20 years. That’s why I drive Toyotas.

I averaged 18-19 in my 2017 TRD PRO on the highway on the stock tires, and dropped to 16-17 when I went larger (275/70). Most highway is 70-80.

Sure the Tundra MPG lags a bit behind the others, but factor in reliability, durability, lack of repairs, resale value, etc, and you come out way on top over time. Sure Used prices are nukin futs right now, but the Tundra really holds its value. I'm at 67K miles, and so far all I have done is oil changes, brakes, and tires. This summer I will do plugs and change the diff fluids. Haven't decided when and if I will do the trans fluid. Haven't towed much, but will start over the next couple years, and want the trans fluid fresh. I'm gonna let the dealer do it.
