I figured I might as well join the party here and start a thread on my build, since this is going to be a work in progress. Eventually, this'll be my overland(ish) expedition vehicle.

    As she sits 7 April:

    170407-Tundra-001.jpg

    170407-Tundra-002.jpg

    170407-Tundra-003.jpg

So far, I've done the following:

    Added TRD Pro suspension
    Spray on bed liner
TRD Pro grille and hood bulge
    TRD Pro headlights
    Fender flares
    Ultra Motorsports 18x9 +18 wheels
Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx 295/70/18 tires
    TRD Pro exhaust

Have most of the blackout badges I need (TRD Pro set) and am looking for SR5 overlays to complete that bit.
Have a Leer topper on order, should be here in a couple of weeks.

Next are front and back bumpers and a winch, once I save up a little more.

Thanks gentlemen! So, since we're on the topic of builds, anybody know of any secure gun cases to put under the back seat in place of the under seat storage for a double cab? I've got an SBR I think might fit perfectly in there.

I would carry an AR in there if I didn't need my under seat storage for my straps, cords, recvery strap, rope, and various tools.

Always fun being the guy who people ask to fix things while you're visiting them, ask for a hand getting unstuck, or help hauling stuff around LOL

Looking into getting a magnet to hold my S&W up between the steering wheel near my gas pedal leg where I can get to it in a split second.

That's actually a good idea. I have been putting my G19 in the center console, but it's not quickly accessible if I needed it on the fly. As for tools and such, I figure once I have my topper on, I'll put all of that stuff in a tough box and throw it in the back. I already am in the habit of keeping a winter survival kit (during winters of course) and a very basic bug out bag (food, water, fire source, etc.) in the truck just in case. Alaska will make a survivalist out of most people, eventually.

Gratuitous AR photo for reference. :)

Hell, I'm already on my way to being a full on survivalist! Continually minimizing what I bring out camping. Want to get to where I can live a week or so with bringing nothing but a knife with me. Not practical I know, but always love testing myself and pushing the limits!

Don't have much need for a hard box, but not actually a bad idea. Would rather a tonneau cover with a couple swing cases and maybe a roof rack for gear and whatnot (can't have that in Memphis...would be gone before you came to a full stop!) but definitely looking into that when I move back down south.

I can see how Alaska would make a survivalist out of people. It's the closest you can get to the frontier days in the modern world! It's almost sickening how complacent most people get with all the comforts nowadays. Exactly why I test myself and put myself in controlled dangerous situations (I ALWAYS tell my wife and a couple family members where I'm going to be when I go out camping complete with gps coordinates , gps, and both a loaded gun or two and flares) where if I need help, I can get it. LOL just me though.

I had hoped as much! I don't fit in well in big urban areas and hipster areas. Just glad Memphis has plenty of parks and nat'l preserves around! LOL helluva lot better than the gun banned cement playground I was stuck in for a bit (Baltimore)
Was illegal to carry a TASER even. Still told my wife to carry one at all times and kept one on me too (and one of my guns in my truck ..shhhh) LOL Rather be safe than sorry!

Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. The only place I don't carry is to work, but that's because I work on JBER, and carrying firearms on a military installation is a big no no. Sucks, all things considering.

Exactly! Luckily even in a blue city like Memphis, they still have castle of doctrine law so it's not all bad!

Same here...work as a QA/QC for medical prosthetics and tools. Area is gated and patrolled, but still carry my tactical blade LOL

LOVE the looks of this truck! Was considering the EC for the longer bed myself. The only Quicksand Tundra I found in my search to buy was a PRO in Reno for $44k. For 8 grand less, I'm very happy with what I got, but your machine looks like the perfect desert toy!

Quick cellphone pic, got the Leer topper and a Yakima rack on. Going to blackout the badges now that I've got the SR5 overlay thanks to @CTX84 being the kind fellow he is! Thanks again!

Then it's on to the bumpers, winches (front and back), and accessories, like a high lift jack and such.

Geez, haven't even had this thing two months yet. This site is a bad influence! At least my wife digs it, said today, as a matter of fact, "if this is your midlife crisis, at least it's useful and looks good."

Thanks ya'll! It wasn't until I picked this truck up that I realized how uncommon this color is, at least in this area. I've only seen two other Quicksand Tundras anywhere in the area, one of which is still sitting at the dealership.

Thanks again for the kind words. :)

Right on! So far, I'm really liking them, though it's mostly just been highway/around town driving so far. Have some trips planned around Alaska and British Columbia this summer, so I'll have a better idea of how they perform then.

What offset do your wheels have?

With my setup, I did have to do some trimming. I just went quick and easy and cut the area of the wheel well out where the tires rubbed, since I'll be replacing the bumper anyway.

I had them on my tacoma in a 285/75/16 with over 30k and no issues at all. Still had plenty of life left. Sold the tacoma recently and have a PRO on order, should be here in a few weeks(hoping before the overland expo in flagstaff)
Not 100% certain on wheels yet. May just stick with the stock PRO wheels for now. But if i do get a different set it'll have +18 offset. Thinking maybe the Method Grid Titanium or Walker Evans 504SB.
Im ok with trimming just trying to avoid the CMC for now.
What all was trimmed on the wheel well?

I like the Walker Evans, those look sharp. What's the Overland Expo?! Off to Google!

And one sec, I'll go snap a pic of where I cut...

Went to the Expo last year. Its a giant venue with tons of overland gear on display for the consumer to check out. Tents, trailers, off road gear, motorcyles and accessories etc. Tons of really cool stuff. They even had the earthroamer. http://earthroamer.com/

First photo shows it gets close to the mount, but doesn't actually touch. Avoiding the CMC was the main driver behind choosing 295/70/18 tires.

Next shows where I cut. Not pretty or neat, but didn't care since I'm replacing the bumper anyway.

Since it created an opening, I just slapped a piece of 100mph tape over the holes exposing the fog lights to prevent anything getting on them.

If I wasn't replacing the bumper, probably would have gone the heat gun/tuck method.

    Hope that helps!

Also, thanks for the links! Wish we had stuff like that up here in AK! Maybe we do, I'm pretty new to all of this. My Tacoma was more a to and from work vehicle with no mods or anything.

ETA - cleaned up the post.

Those earthroamers are my wife's dream vehicle. But holy $$$! We actually saw one up here a couple of years ago. That thing was crazy!
