Ah, I see. All good then, but I hear you. It's hard to spend the money a truck costs and then have to feel like you are settling. The Tundra isn't perfect, but no truck is. Just gotta decide what you want the money spent on, and for it being my only wheels, I didn't really have a choice outside of Toyota. :notsure:

Everyone bashes the Tundra MPG. My buddies 6.2liter in his High Country requires premium. The Tundra is cheaper in cost per mile factoring in the 40% increase for Premium fuel. Then if you get the gm 5.3 that requires regular unleaded its a dog as far as towing.

I tow about the same weight, 6500lbs in my loaded travel trailer with a 2018 4WD Platinum. The truck handles it fine with WDH with Sway control. I am going to add some firestone ride rite air bags to smooth out the ride a little. I have taken it through the CAT scales fully loaded MY Payload sticker says 1185 pounds payload. I added Tyger trifold toneau (30 lbs), Tyger Star Armor (120 lbs), Spray in liner (40 lbs), and TRD Rear Sway bar, 30 lbs, for a total of about 220 lbs of add-ons. My wife and I combine for about 350 lbs. Theoretically, we should have about 630 lbs left. Scale says 660 lbs. When I load the trailer, including 100lbs of hitch, I have about 3,450 lbs front axle and 3500 rear axle. Still about 250lbs left. We take 2 small dogs that total about 45 lbs as well.

But, you you can't just add up weights and come to a right answer.

Your set up needs to be correct - trailer level, with the hitch shifting weight back onto the front axle to the original height, and then weighed. What you will find is that a WDH will shift most weight back onto the front axle, and if loaded properly, it will also shift a small amount back to the trailer axles. It is far more important to be under the axle loads which are 4,000 lbs front and 4,000 lbs rear in the Tundra.

As for the stock trailer brake controller, it works just fine. You do have to crank the output up to 10. If you do, it will stop the entire rig(slowly) and hold it in a stopped position on a slight grade.
