Once the kids are bigger and they fix the laundry list of issues with it I’ll jump back over. The sad realization though is that I don’t truly need a truck…. Like 90% of truck owners

I’ve got a 22 crewmax 6.5 bed non hybrid with air and tow mirrors. The tow mirrors take some getting used to as they create a sizeable blind spot that you have to learn to work around. I came from a 2016 ecodiesel crew/6.5 outdoorsman.

Air suspension- I set up the weight distributing hitch without the air activated- basically at normal height. The air doesn’t do anything without the engine running, so I set it up without the engine on. It works wonderfully. When not towing I love that I drive level with whatever load. You can get away without it, but it does work really well. If you need a lift though, there’s limited options. And also note- unlike the ram, it’s only for the rear.

    Comparison:
Toyota has way more power and torque. Much swifter passing when towing.
I got 23.5 mpg average in the ram (3.92 gears), and I do 19 give or take with the non hybrid Toyota. Mostly highway for both. In city the ram did far better than the Toyota does. Like 18/19 vs 13.
‘Toyota 10 speed is better than the ram 8 speed. When cold the ram would really hang up in first gear. That said there is some occasional clunkiness with the Toyota.
Brakes have a very different feel on the tundra…. Preferred the Ram.
I had the Ram boxes and miss them.
Towing I got about 14 towing my 5k lb 23’ airstream with the Ram. Toyota I’m about 12, maybe 11 with the same trailer.
Turning- Ram smokes the tundra in turn radius. I’m still not cool with that aspect.
Looks are subjective so I’ll leave that.
Interior…. I’m still getting used to it. I like the wireless CarPlay in the tundra.

I got rid of the ram because I had two pretty large incidents maintenance-wise. One was a broken glow plug that took 87 days to repair. One was a broken axle at 90k miles. $11k repair (got ram to help with most of it) and took another 70 days. I bought the Toyota because of perceived reliability, but now have unlocked anxiety with all the motor fails listed on this site. I’m hoping mine isn’t one of them.

um you missed my "1." point, the vehicle can only move ONLY on battery power below 18 mph. above 18 mph it is used in conjunction with the gas engine.

edit: i stand corrected, as someone else has pointed out.

but from the manual it doesnt say it should be battery only above 18mph.

Yea the manual says 1 thing, but its wrong... found that out day 1 of owning the truck and driving 13hrs from Mobile to Kansas City on a tank and a 1/4 of gas... was impressed with how long it stayed in electric mode in the hills and flat lands all stock. Once lifted/ kitted with bumper and tires it took way more finessing, but as I have said before, I believe the hybrid offers substantially better advantages once kitted out over the stock engine

so I’m about confused on the low/normal/high rear air setting. Are you saying there is no way to keep the high setting above 18 miles an hour? Not sure I understand the purpose of the setting if that is the case. Thanks in advance.

I have the auto level rear bags too on my SR5. You can use the low and high option when stopped or crawling. The way it was explained to me... "you can use low with loading and unloading to get better access to the bed or hitching a trailer. High mode could be used to for different reasons. Try to gain an inch on departure angle (yeah right....) or raise the bed up before adding a heavy load to prevent the initial squat until the compressor compensates." But you are right, once you accelerate, it always goes back to "normal". I have not found any way to maintain low or high while moving. You can however play with the adjustment arms under the truck if you want to raise or lower the default "normal"

So what AZ said is correct. One thing to add is if you put a big ass load in the box, truck will squat and the airbags will lift it up to normal, and keep it there at ANY speed, until the load is removed, then truck will automatically squat back down to normal

    - manually adjusted to high or low, will return to normal position at 18 MPH
    - load sensing lift will remain lifted at any speed until load is removed, then return to normal

I wouldn't want to own one of these trucks with out it. note, my days of lift kits with Super Swampers are over

I agree. I love the low and the auto lift when moving big/heavy loads. Super convenient. However, your last comment does bring up a good point... lift kits/options for out airbag trucks are pretty darn limited to spacer kits and nothing super cool out there. I plan on piecing together my own and retain the airbags... but still good info to have.

I have a ‘22 1794 that I bought used that came with the air suspension. Thought I would never use it because I rarely tow.
Two times now I have hauled concrete block and it auto leveled load magically once I started truck. Lifted looking photo is after unloading blocks before I started truck. Good luck. D
