I have a 2023 cab plus sr5 and there are a few things you should keep in mind. The back seat space is terrible. Only good for little kid passengers. Not sure what they were thinking when they cut all the room from the old series. A pain in the ass if you're lifting anything bulky from the back seats as you have inadequate room for your body (eg. lifting my old Lab retriever down). Some other big misses - the back doors no longer have any side storage compartments. I really miss that over my old Tundra. Now you only have one eyeglass storage cubby instead of having four like the old truck. The biggest issue is the terrible wind/road noise due to total failure by Toyota to design and wind tunnel test the vehicle during the design phase. Make sure you test drive the exact model you hope to purchase as I've been told the noise issue is not as bad with the crew cab model. Toyota has no planned fix for this issue even though there have been non-stop complaints about the bad cab seals and road noise, since release of the new generation. Their "fix" is to install another defective cab seal and you still have the same wind roar. They need to redesign the shape/profile of the side view mirrors and upgrade the rubber cab/window seal. I would advise you not to buy the truck until Toyota fixes a major issue that owners have been complaining about for 2+years now. Another shocker is that your truck is missing a belly pan to protect your drivetrain! Instead you get a really nice piece of gray outdoor carpetting to protect your investment. Lay down and take a look if you test drive a non-trd model and you'll be shaking your head. Be prepared to order a $900 TRD metal belly pan for your truck if you plan on doing any offroad with it. One thing I'm happy about is the seat comfort and the fuel economy on this new truck. Engine only has 1900km on it and I'm getting 11.7 imperial miles per gallon average when I removed my winter snows and put the supplied Bridgestones back on. Oops I almost forgot - don't expect to get two sets of keys when you hand them your $70,000. No head's up here in Ontario that you'll only be getting a single set. It's now been almost five months, and nine calls to Toyota to try and get my second set. You just get the standard "PFO" reply and it's not a dealer issue that they can do anything about.

Oops! You're right. 11.7 L/100 or 24.1 miles per imp. gallon. I thought that was pretty good for a full size, considering some of it was in-town driving, going through stop signs and traffic lights.

At the golf course some guys were asking about my new Tundra. I said " consider it a car with pick up box attached for hauling crap to the dump"

Re: miles per imperial gallon. You must be post-boomer era age. Mileage was always miles per imperial gallon in Canada before metric was introduced. A lot of people my age still think imperial eg. your body weight is in pounds, the dressed weight of the buck you shot is in pounds, the weight of the bass you caught is in pounds, etc. I must live in a redneck area of Ontario as the local grocery stores are still using price per pound! Think about how stupid it sounds to substitute kilograms for pounds when you're using some of the local dialect eg "don't ever try putting ten pounds of shit into a nine pound bag!!". Metrify it and it just sounds plain stupid

Yeah - Imperial is alot more fun.

Give him an inch and he takes a yard !

    Metric

give him .0277 meters and he takes a meter !

    Blah .....No comparison.

All the gas jugs you can buy out this way home depot lowes home hardware etc... show 2 lines. One is US gallons the other the liter equivalent.

My son is a construction millwright. Large projects. He says he measures in both metric and imperial.

Anything new is measured in metric. Any work done on older buildings - 25 years + is measured in imperial.

I bought 4 gas jugs from Lordco in 2021 and they have a " IMP 5 Gallon" mark on them........not that it means shit when you are dumping it in a concrete saw......but they are still out there

2023 SR5 double cab TSS .This is my 3rd Tundra, I’m unfortunately disappointed in several things with this truck. First it’s no longer a real truck . It’s a car with a plastic bed. They have loaded it with things you don’t want or need.
I hate the auto engine kill when I come to a stop. I have to hit a button every time after I start it to cancel this function.
The remote start I’ve bought will stop working at some point and I’ll have to buy a subscription to keep it working.
What Toyota did was scale up the Tacoma and added a bunch of stuff most people don’t want. They took away things you need.
no front tow hooks ? What’s up with that?
Can’t open the door and back up it shuts down.
A/C is Finicky . I could go on.
Next time I’ll be test driving Chevy and Fords before I buy another Toyota.
Sad, what they have done to what used to be fine Truck .

Enjoy the Ford or Chevv or whatever. Everything you complained about has been discussed in this forum so.....do some home work before heading to the Ford lot....you really only have your self to blame at this point

…or for going camping, biking, fishing, backpacking, or hunting; and is more powerful, gets better fuel economy, and can tow/haul more weight than the regular cab 8ft bed pickup trucks of the 90s that people seem to wish were still around.

The last thing I want is a regular cab 8’ bed. That’s a “real truck” only to people who can’t handle change. Sorry, that’s probably offensive to some, lol. I do wish Toyota gave us the option, even if they have zero financial incentive to do so.

But for me, a regular cab can’t do NEARLY the amount of tasks I use mine for. If I did drywall/roofing/framing, camped in my bed, or hauled more than one motorcycle or ATV at a time, while also not needing to carry $50k worth of gear to and from work that needs to be climate controlled and never wanted to take my family places in my truck, yeah I guess I’d have gone for a smaller cab and longer bed.

There’s just way too much utility in a shortbed crewmax for the things I need a truck to do to have gone with anything else.

Hah! Hah! I was born in Scotland and my parents are both Scots. Weights are still in stone to them. A wrench is a spanner, the trunk of the car is the boot and the hood is the bonnet. A truck is a lorry. Fries are chips and chips are crisps. If we speak Doric dialect you wouldn’t understand a bloody thing we’re saying!

Having owned Tundras in the past, I have to agree with 6thyota. My new 2023 feels like a gadget-loaded Tacoma to me. The new one shrunk and it’s loaded with a pile of electronic crap that for the most part is a pain in the ass. I’d like to get rid off all the driving aid assistance crap and take a crowbar to the media unit on the dash. In fairness to Toyota I’m sure they’re simply building a product that the general public want. I’m sure the other big three trucks are also loaded with all this shite. I wish they had taken the gen two truck, kept the inner cab dimensions, kept the versatile front folding bench, left the shifter on the column, added the new rear suspension, added the new v6 with the turbo, then left the test of the bloody truck alone.

Thread summary- aprox 1/2 of the respondents don't own a Gen3. They say don't buy one. The other 1/2, with the exception of 1, really like their truck.

It's odd that half the people that respond on the Gen 3 forum don't own Gen 3's. Myself included but I'll have it in 3 weeks.

    This is a good observation.

I have no issues with older technology. I have a 2023 4Runner that youtubers call a dinosaur :)

If brand new 2.5 Gen Tundras were still available, I would have bought one. I'm very meticulous and like buying new. After a lot of research and testdrives, I decided I could live with the flaws of the 3rd Gen vs other brands.

Initially, I compromized and got what was available. But I traded that truck in for close to MSRP for the 4R ORP. Now I have the truck that I really wanted, a Limited OR in MGM with premium options like PVM and the digital rearview camera that are so usable.

This one of the 1/2 is going by what I've seen in the threads. (that was rough grammar; not sure I got it right!)

Personally, the risk of my truck going limp at the worst time possible is enough for me to steer VERY clear of the 2023s. Especially when the threads say the TSB hasn't fixed it.

That gives you 3 weeks to drive some Chevy or Fords. Which is what I should have done. Then I’d know for sure if Toyota is still the best vehicle available.
If you’ve never had a Tundra, you may like it. This is my 3rd and I’m disappointed in the direction Toyota chose. The mileage is better but time will tell if the motor holds up.

I would be driving a 23 right now if the prices weren’t ridiculous for a 1/2ton. Do I like what Toyota did, nope. Some of the things were a step back. It’s a catch up to the competition’s offerings. If they didn’t price them so high out of greed, I would return my lease in today and lease a 23. But the fact that they want $6-650 on a SR5 lease is not worth it for a 1/2 ton.

Having owned multiple Tacomas but this being my first Tundra I feel the exact opposite. The upgraded technology in the Gen3 Tundra was a primary reason why I waited for it. I tend to drive my vehicles for 8+ years so wireless Apple CarPlay and the 14" display were a must. I'm not a huge fan of the lane assist and adaptive cruise control but those are fairly standard on any mid-level trim vehicle (and easy to disable).

The cab space in the CrewMax Tundra is light years better than the Tacoma. As for complaints about the DC cab space, all it took for me was one look to say "nah, waaaaaaaay too small."

For sure, but everyone knows you don't typically buyout a lease. But in this market, it's the obvious choice.

I've looked at and driven everything at least twice. I just had a 2022 F150 lariat repurchased/ lemon lawed last week. Plenty of experience there. Second choice for me was a GMC AT4. Best interior but some other issues I didn't like. It will be my second Tundra. I'm anxious to get it.

    The fun begins
I just got my 2023 TRD Pro a week ago.

So far I’ve put on 1200 kilometres and I am loving it.

I will say I think they have fixed the majority of the issues that I have heard about from the early 2022s. My wind noise isn’t howling probably due to the addition of an extra weather strip added to the front doors like on the Sequoia. There is a video on YouTube about it. Furthermore I added Ventvisors which brought down the noise a little more.

List of items I have already taken care of:
    Ventvisors
    Catalytic converter plate
Carista to turn off fake engine noise, seat belt audible alarms etc

    Items to add:
    Tonneau cover
Dynamat in every door to help the JBL which already isn’t bad and to make it really sound great

Pictures of my old Tacoma attached plus some of the new one. The Tacoma was the best truck I’ve ever owned the mods I did to it were also a ton of work but fun as well.
