The Platinum has dark chrome. While still not ideal, it’s less glaring.

It’s definitely embarrassing to know people hear that in something clearly brand new.

I just picked up a 24 TRD Pro about 3 weeks ago and absolutely love it. The drive is so smooth and spacious. I love the tech in the truck and I love…well everything. Complaints? I only have just over 640 miles on my baby so i haven’t had much time to look for things or find things.

You wanna hear an audible “do not buy” billboard? This is what my F-150 PowerBoost sounded like when I started it on cold mornings… Like someone threw a handfull of drywall screws into a garbage disposal! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNBi-qT1Crs&t=5s

Indeed... And to your earlier point about vetting how manufacturers handle QC issues, they "know nothing" about what causes this even though it's a widespread problem. Nightmare.

I would actually not be that worried about the bearings, and I’m one of those nasty 2nd Gen owners. What I would worry about is in the rare event you have the issue is how long it takes to fix, and how Toyota and the dealer handle a loaner or rental. That has been the most worrying part of the thread on engine failures is consistent mediocre customer support/care.

Nobody knows! Many, many theories... But know confirmed cause. That said, I'm pretty damn sure it's a starving pump. Reason being, it only happened, on mine, when it was extremely cold and the nose was pointing downhill. If pointing uphill or on flat ground, no noise regardless of temperature. So, my thought was a combination of pump location, fluid level and fluid viscosity change due to freezing temps. I added more fluid and it stopped but pretty sure it was overfilled.

    Again, nightmare.

ya, Im not worried about it much at all.

even if mine did crap out, Im lucky since I have an awesome dealer, they take care of everything no BS, I bought 3 vehicles from them this year alone.

so, Im just going to keep enjoying this truck which I really like so far, so much nicer than my old one

I didn't. Ford did. And after checking the dipstick afterward, it was overfilled.

Well, I pulled the trigger! Got a great deal on a new 2023 Platinum and had them PPF the entire front end. Picked up today and drove it about 140 miles home - What a fantastic, comfortable truck! Super pleased with the ourchase!

Thank you all for your feedback and helping me make this decision.

This thread has me for sure keeping my 330k 06’.

I have an $82k Ram 3500 Dually that is currently a lawn ornament, as the Hydraulic Brake Control Unit has an internal short that is affecting over 400k trucks. No parts available, and the “fix” is under engineering review. No option for a loaner vehicle. Truck only has 14k on it.

I have no faith in any newer vehicle and more importantly no faith in the dealers.

I have purchased quite a few new vehicles, and nothings worse that having issues with a something new.

I drive my truck for work and it’s makes me about $1,700 a month in mileage reimbursement. Everyone gave me $hit about driving a truck with a ton of miles on it saying that the company is going to be pissed when it dies on me. 3 1/2 years and 123k later, I can honestly say it’s been more reliable than coworkers late model Ram Chevy or Fords.

Congratulations @Danny G on your new Platinum!!! Sharp looking rig.

Good for you to not listen to the whiners/naysayers/2nd gen jealous haters - you can now see for yourself why us 3rd Gen owners really like our trucks. Welcome aboard!

Mine is a 2022 with currently about 26K on it. AT 24K IT HAD CAMSHAFT FAILURE.
Many are reporting engine failures due to bearings. Lots of quality issues as well thruout.
Im sorry I purchased this truck. It’s a beautiful truck. Rides nice. It’s been rebuilt but…… I am planning a trip across country and Im worried I wont make it. There is nothing out there that is new (truck wise) reliable, without issues . So be aware that there are issues with the Tundra. Toyota is going to play dumb when issues arise they will play the numbers rather than have a recall . Good luck with your search.

It’s incredible - Such a better truck than any of my F-150s. Went with the standard suspension as I plan to keep long term and saw the AVS as a potential failure point down the road. Plus, I don’t tow that much and the standard suspension gives me more lift options. Even without AVS though, it’s such a cushy ride. Love it!

Thank you! And here’s the thing about the naysayers - Anyone that has a bad experience with a vehicle is going to have negative things to say, and with good reason. But if you do your research on 1/2 ton pickups, they literally ALL have their own issues… Every one of them.

So, the way I viewed this was that I could either (a) find an option that has minimal issues, the Tundra being just that (b) get an older truck with less reported issues and deal with lacking tech and higher maintenance requirements/issues of its own due to age/use and no warranty to boot, or (c) not get a truck… I think I made the right choice.
