Keep an eye on it; hopefully no evac. Is it a new one?

Oh there’s plenty of evac, no structure lost yet. not too close to us yet, 12 miles by road, less by crow, but we have plenty of friends over there. Just started Tuesday night. We can hear and see some small fixed wings coming and going to get slurry. And they have a helicopter or two dipping in the river.
Pic from a buddy. He lives that close. I’ll be bringing my radio home from work tomorrow.

Well shit, couple different directions, they’re calling it erratic. Mostly north and east, but west too... When it went up I kinda thought/hoped it wouldn’t really take off, but it sure did. This is the first time I’ve been close to something like this. Although we’re safe it sure is nerve racking. I know there are plenty of other places burning, now I get it.

We’re good here. This is the view from our town ~10 miles by road. The fire is mostly running away from homes and such. Still close. Still scary. Those night pictures are super scary looking. Coming home on the bus, I could see flame and smokey hot spots. Community is rallying hard, Red Cross is doing great. 27EFDDB0-2196-4254-B773-5FA8080278C6.jpg

Fire danger is scary. A little rain in Boulder this afternoon at least.

I'm still looking for my Tundra, but wanted to share this with the local folks. AN Arapahoe will sell a new 2018 SR5 for $35,345 (includes $2k rebate), but won't move on the $35,999 price for same 2016 SR5 with 28k miles. Crazy. Buying new is cheaper, which is concept my wife thinks is impossible.

If I was really serious about the 2016, I bet the price would go down, but you get my point about the regional value of these trucks.

Headed to Turquoise Lake for the first time on Thursday. We were up at Echo Lake two weeks ago. It's nice to get out of the heat. And nice not to have cell service.

Neither the wife or I have been to RMNP in a few months so we decided to head there tomorrow. I haven't done Old Fall River Road yet this year (and we've never taken the Tundra across it), so we plan to take that East to West.

anyone know a fun 4WD route we can use to come back W to E in the Tundra? We don't mind if it takes us a few hours out of the way.

Trail Ridge Road and Poudre Canyon Road are both great, but looking for something new.

    thanks.

crowds can be managed: we're early risers and we have the ATB annual pass (automated entry at Beaver Meadows entrance FTMFW!!!!). Even in the crowded parks like Rocky, hike a mile from the TH and the crowds are gone (Yellowstone and Yosemite, you only have to hike 1/8 mile).

annual pass is a must have and it works at brainard lake as well as a few other spots. dawn patrol, mid-week is my routine but i prefer winter up there over summer. my last few times in the park, i've been going in at wild basin or the longs peak trailhead. no one on the trails over there.

Wild Basin is great. I strongly recommend the Ouzel Falls trail to friends and family that visit CO. There is actually lots of traffic on the Longs Peak trail, but its over by 3AM.

RMNP is one of my very favorite places in the world. in 2017, my family visited the park at least once in each calendar month!
