Personally I'd be fine if they shut us off and closed the passes. Reminds me of the old days when we didn't have hoards driving up here.

could not agree more. One step further - take all those who came here and want to make it like the place they came from and send them back to the place they came from! Harsh? No.

yeah, I've never understood why people leave somewhere to go somewhere else and try to change it to the place that they came from. That concept is beyond my understanding.

^^This, and then figure a lifted 4x4 makes them king of the road until they are in the ditch or up the ass of the car in front of them. Guess they don't know 4x4 may give you traction but it does not let you stop any faster.

No CA blood in my genes. 4th generation native born in gwood.

Unless your talking about all the transplants from CA that have come here with this mentality?

It's of my opinion that when transplants find out they don't like our rules and regs they're more than welcome to fuck on off back to where they came from instead of trying to change us into something they left in the first place. If they like where they moved to, then they can find a way to fit in and accept their choice to relocate.

This makes more sense now. And I'm not a total curmudgeon either. I'm all for accepting transplants when they want to be here for what it is. I know once my kids are grown I'm going to to be a transplant somewhere else myself.

Not to pick on you specifically but I have heard this way too many times and it is a pet peeve of mine.

The second half of this statement is correct but it directly disputes the first half which is probably why people get confused when they are given this advice. You are not able to stop any faster because you actually do not have any more traction when you hit the 4x4 switch, the same 4 tires are still touching the ground no matter what drive mode you are in. 4x4 allows you to make use of more available traction... it does not give you more...

The only way to get more traction is to physically change something about your contact with the road with different tires, chains, traction boards, etc.

    /rant

Now I will go back to bored scrolling since I don't belong in the CO thread :hattip:

My wife’s a CO native and I moved here 5 years ago when we got married. Having spent half my life in UT, I always thought CO was the cool older brother… and then I moved here. My wife explained to me it wasn’t always like this. I jokingly refer to it as East California:rofl:

She travels a lot for work and anytime someone talks about moving here, she tells them it sucks and there’s no vacancy (as a deterrent) haha!

I want to make her some stickers to put on her luggage or hand out, to spread the word, haha

Id buy a sticker in option 1. That's hilarious. Lucky for us more of them are starting to pick Texas over CO now. No real winters, and trying to shed the tax burden they allowed to consume their lives.

Lived in Gwood, Carbondale and Redstone in the 70's when I worked at the Coal mines. Days long gone like the everything else. Still make it to that area a few times each year.

well if that is the case why even have four wheel drive or all wheel drive when all you have to do is physically change something about your contact with the road? I'll cut and paste your response posted above in the general thread. It will be interesting to read the replies. I'm sure I will learn something.

I feel like you only read half of my post… you can put all the traction aids you want on your truck in 2wd and you will still not have a good time because more than half of your available traction is sitting under your heavy engine in the front of the truck. 4x4 and AWD serve to give you access to more of your available traction to put driving power to the ground. The only way to get full traction is front and rear lockers and yet, you still won’t be able to brake any better because it is still the same 4 tires on the ground.

Sounds more and more like what I said. 4wd provides more traction and does not help you stop. I said nothing about 2wd in my post. Fortunately we can both use the ignore button.

I typically ride Loveland pass if anyone ever has interest in meeting up. Also have a few 4 packs to Loveland if the pass is closed.

Thursdays and Saturdays are the only days I can't ski due to work schedules. Any other days I'm available. Sundays usually ski with my kids if their interest is high enough.

I'm off Sunday. Let the CO meet ups begin again.

fyi; little about me. 51yr old snowboarder, able to ride any part of the mountain. Tricks are for kids though so I stay away from the park. I still ride fast, but not as fast as I used to. Moguls don't scare me, just slow me down a bit. Even as a native this is my first year ever riding copper so I can't say I know the mtn well, but I'm learning how to get around and learn where all the fun stuff is.
