Not a firefighter but I work closely with wildland fire folks:

This is accurate, kinda. Crews are adapting to covid protocols, though.

Several front range counties put fire bans in place mid-stay home order to reduce the likelihood of a fire. Makes sense since upwards of 85% of wildland fires are human-caused.

In those more remote counties, local departments/VFDs hold the line until the land management agencies get crews there. In many places, those locals were/are being used in the county EOCs, or for other virus-response stuff.

In addition to those counties who put restrictions in place mid-covid, there are currently four front range counties (and the whole San Luis Valley) in fire restrictions because of fuel & weather conditions. It’s July 2018 dry in some of these places, so please be careful if you’re out there.

Yep...San Luis Valley, where my property is, has had fire restrictions for quite some time. Long before this virus showed up. The biggest factor in San Luis Valley is the wind. There is a reason why the Great Sand Dunes are there.....

If I’m not mistaken, fireworks are always illegal on fed land, regardless of agency jurisdiction.

My secret....off grid. Hint...somewhere near the Trinchera Ranch at 8300ft that was part of 50000 acres sub-divided by Malcolm Forbes back in the 70's

I know of and where Trinchera ranch is but don't know the area at all. I hunt near Antonito so I try to make it down there a couple of times before hunting season.

2nd largest elk herd in the state roams around nearby. Sometimes on my property. My property is about 5 miles from the Trinchera main ranch house as the raven flys. Going down there Thursday.

I've been to Dos Hermanas in Antonito. Great Mex food. San Luis Valley has Mexican immigrants that Andrew Jackson had brought in a long time ago to utilize the great soil in the valley for farming. Great people and hard workers. Ranchers and farmers. Several generations. Oldest part of the state. Best Mex food in CO down there. Makes sense, since New Mexico is a stones throw away...sort of!

Taco Bueno is mid 1960's founded in Texas. Tex Mex. None here. After 1868, the current folks moved in around then. Long before Taco Bueno...LOL

Rarely. The rut/shedding usually takes place much higher up although I usually find some nice deer antlers every year. I sell them to a friend who makes hand crafted knives. "Technically" you can't harvest bull sheds. At least in my county. Game wardens frown on elk antlers with no proof of kill. Too much poaching going on in the ranches where my property is located.
