About 5 min into the first quarter, when it was 14-0, I *almost* started to feel a little sorry for Syracuse. Obviously that was premature!!!

From what I read this morning Venables beat himself up pretty bad about the performance of the defense, but in the end - a win is a win!

I too thought it was going to be a slaughter. Clemson lost control. Don't know if they'll retain #1 after that performance but like you said, a win is a win!

Here's hoping Cal can beat Stanford next Sat. Oregon appears to be running on all cylinders finally and should win out. Need to see Utah rematch hopefully. Definitely won't end like the first game. PAC-12 is pretty much done with Stanford loss, although Stanford could really mess up Notre Dame's season when they meet in a couple of weeks.

Well, Oregon got the job done against USC. Oregon is hotter than crap right now. Running on all cylinders. (Should get a decent bowl game match up.) It's now up to Cal to pull off the upset against Stanford. Oregon has the potential tiebreaker in the north. Utah is now eliminated from taking the south. South will be decided next week at USC vs UCLA.

I don't think he's going anywhere but if he does, it will be disappointing. He has been a great coach for Clemson.

Cal sucks. I've got Stanford winning the Pac-12 championship after beating Notre Dame at home. Not a Stanford fan but things are shaping up real good for them. Not too late for more upsets.

Embarrassing loss for Florida this weekend. My Vols kept the streak going, and MTSU won again too. All is good in the college football world for me! South Carolina showed up to play this weekend, almost made a fool out of Clemson.

? They did show up to play but definitely wouldn't say they almost made a fool out of them. It is a rivalry game, anything can happen to any team. If we didn't turn the ball over so many times, It would have been embarrassing for South Carolina.

The morons in Vegas had Oregon +35.5 against Oregon State. The Civil War match up is always a toss up. Was the 119th time they played it. Last year Oregon had to pull the win out of their ass and they were in the national championship. All about pride.

On another forum that I frequent (fly fishing related) I commented that Clemson looked better last night, to which someone replied that I must have been watching a different game. I responded with the following and I'm curious what other opinions are...

"I guess it's all a matter of opinion, but I definitely felt like they played much better than they did against the Gamecocks. I mean, UNC is a very good team that was on an 11 game winning streak and seemed to be improving with every win. At one point in the third quarter, Clemson was winning by 18, but gave up a bunch of penalties that led to a couple of late scores. Granted, that has to be cleaned up before they will have an honest chance against a top 4 team on Dec 31. But as a Clemson fan, I have hopes that they'll get that sorted out. Of course, you can make the case that a National Championship caliber team would never make those mistakes to start with - and I can't really argue that. I'm just glad Clemson will have a chance to play on 12/31!"

And I followed up with this:

"One more opinion... I've never played football in my life, so I can't say for sure if this applies, but I did run cross country in college and I have ran A LOT of road races. I have found that many athletes "play to the level of their competition". In other words, the winner of a race will often only win by a small margin because it's difficult to self-motivate enough to crush the competition if someone isn't right on your heels (literally and figuratively). Again - as a Clemson fan, I reason that players subconsciously play *just well enough* to get a lead, then maintain it. Hence the close wins against teams the likes of Notre Dame, FSU, and UNC, but also the close wins against USC and other lesser opponents.

Of course, this could just be blind loyalty, but it makes me feel better!"

    Thoughts? Opinions?

Your right. I went to last nights game and the South Carolina game. Clemson definitely played better this week. Were they perfect? Hell no, but they always seem to find a way to win. That's all that matters in the end. In a little bit we will find out who they play on New Year's Eve. It's looking like Michigan state and I think Clemson is a much better team than them. Either way I'm proud of my boys for making it to the playoff's! Let people talk all the shit they want, we are the only ones with a perfect football team! :jellydance:

Congrats on Clemson. Too bad it's marred by the phantom offsides. They still would've had to score. Would love to see Bama vs Tigers, we shall see.

Agreed. But not only would they have had to score, they would have had to make the 2-Pt conversion, and then win in OT. Possible - sure. But not likely given the way the defense was playing.
